Those Ed Sullivan performances should be epic. I used to watch that show every week because there were always so many good bands. Live performances, not lip synched as they usually were in the 60s. I especially remember the Stones doing Paint It Black with Brian Jones playing sitar!

I got the Some Girls remastered they released two years ago, which sounds fantastic. But I might get this set again for the extra tracks/outtakes. I'm more looking forward to that Live In Texas blu-ray though.

I did as well, I am REALLY starting to get pissed at bands doing this crap, it was just released a couple of years ago and now again as a "deluxe" edition with extra songs, I know the music industry has been hurting the last few years, but give me break and it's not like they need the money........

The Ed Sullivan Shows is tempting, but I'm not entirely sure I want it. I really have no desire to watch entire episodes of The Ed Sullivan Show for what is essentially 17 Stones songs (or 12 on the 4 episode edition) a couple of which take place under the credits, spread out across 2 DVDs. And some of those songs I don't care much about anyway, like Around And Around, 2120 South Michigan Avenue, or the network TV friendly version of Let's Spend The Night Together (aka Let's Spend Some Time Together).

The only other thing I'm interested in seeing is a vintage 1969 Rodney Dangerfield performance. As somebody not interested in vintage Ed Sullivan and only cares about the Stones performances, I kind of just wish they would have taken their performances and put them on a single DVD (with maybe some bonus material of other TV appearances) instead of this. I'll probably wait for the price to drop then get it. I hope it drops as much as "The Biggest Bang", I saw that bad boy at Best Buy the other day for $4.99. That's a 4 DVD set, I wish I had waited for that price drop. At that price I had to buy one, just in case mine wore out or maybe a gift for another Stones fan.

Jagger said that he actually sang "Let's spend mm mm together."
Yeah, some of the early stuff may not be exceptional but besides Paint It Black, how about Satisfaction, Ruby Tuesday, Gimme Shelter, Honky Tonk Women. I'm looking forward to it but like you I'll wait for the price to drop. The Sullivan show was such a hodge podge of stuff every week (man, TV was SOOOO different in the 60s) but there's still some Dusty Springfield and Rodney Dangerfield was always great. It will be fun to just skip around to what I want to see.

There've been a few DVDs of just musical performances from Sullivan but the quality is really uneven. I don't know how they made the selections. It would be a lot better if they did it by year or maybe separated the artists like British Invasion, American bands, whatever.

Yeah, it might be cool, we'll see.

What I'm REALLY excited about is Some Girls Live In Texas '78. I was just watching the trailer...

looks pretty good. "Ladies And Gentlemen... The Rolling Stone"s was recorded in Ft. Worth also, with some from Houston, so I think there's a trend of good Ft. Worth shows. I saw them in Ft. Worth in '97 and they tore it up then too. I've never seen any live stuff from this era though, and it looks pretty sweet.

For a long time Ft. Worth got the best shows over Dallas, all through the 70s. Then Reunion Arena opened in 1980. But I saw lots of great shows in FW, including Hendrix and Santana in 1970 and my first Who show in 1976. Still seems kind of amazing the shows we got here when Dallas is the larger city.

Wait, were you the one who wanted me to burn them a copy of the Texas Motor Speedway show? Somebody did and I can't find the thread or know who it was. I figured if they wanted it bad enough they'd PM me.

    Wasn't me.
I do hope I meet you one of these days when I make one of my irregular trips to Austin.

Just got an e-mail from The Stones, unreleased track revealed today. Instead of actually just making the song available they link you to a radio show and tell you to skip to about 2hr5min into it. Anyway, here is a link to the url version of the e-mail.

Cool. I changed my pre-order today from the DVD to the CD/DVD set. I pulled the trigger on the Deluxe Edition of Some Girls too. I was holding off because I JUST bought the 2009 remaster of Some Girls like 6 months ago before I even knew this was coming out, and I felt kind of dumb buying the same album twice in the same year, but I want it so I went ahead.

I didn't get the big box, or the wig box, but I didn't go with the standard Deluxe Edition either. I got the CD Gift Case Set. It's pretty cool, it comes with a Some Girls inspired 24 disc leather (or something like leather) CD case, the two CDs, a key chain, guitar picks and buttons. I'm pretty happy with it. It was $45 when I ordered it, but I think it's back up to $50 at the moment.

I got the CD/DVD combo for Christmas, and it's really good. I prefer Mick Taylor to Ron Wood, but Ron Wood still sounds great, as does the rest of the band.

Yeah, it's really good. I prefer Mick to Ronnie also, and I love "Ladies And Gentlemen The Rolling Stones", but even though musically it's not as good as L&G, the film itself is superior. The small venue is great, and the cinematography is great.

I will say I was a little worried after the first two songs, they really kind of struggled through those, and Mick looked like he would be too high to finish the show, but by the time they got to Honky Tonk Women they really picked it up and kicked ass the rest of the way.

I agree; the "Some Girls" DVD is better, but "Ladies and Gentlemen" is better musically. Both are great, though.
