Currency Accepted at the Merch Tents in Canada?

Hi gang - I know this is probably an asinine question, but I'm coming up from the states to catch PJ in Canada, and I'd like to know what the best way is to pay for items at the merch tent?

Do the merchandisers accept U.S. currency? Do they accept credit cards (Visa, AmEx, MasterCard)?

Thanks, in advance, for any help you can afford me! ;)

I would stick with the usual ..Canadian cash /Credit or debit ...
I also find Credit card companies give you the best exchange by far !
For beer / food you can sometimes pay with american cash but they usually rape you on exchange.
Can cash or CC is the way to go

Note, the Canadian Dollar is actually a touch stronger than the American dollar right now (very slightly, but it is) ... so, I'm guessing a bunch of places either won't take your greenbacks or will gouge you on the exchange worse than a bank would if you made the exchange yourself before you arrive.

I think, as long as the merch tents take Visa, I'm good (right?)...

    Do they take CC's?

You are perfect with Visa ! will be no problem.. (Just make sure you have ID)

One last small thought is to call visa and tell them you are in canada especially if you dont travel lots outside the USA, (dont want you card frozen)

The outside merch stand at Hamilton was not accepting cards at all, and also declined American dollars, so I guess it depends from venue to venue.

Muddy - way ahead of you, but thanks for the courteous heads-up! :) Talked to my bank already. They know I'm in town to rock and they'd hate for me to get stranded.

Since they were only accepting Canadian currency at Hamilton, I'll prolly bring some local bucks with me. Better safe than sorry, right?

    Thanks guys!

If you have an ATM card with a decent sized bank in the U.S., once you get into Canada, just go to a Canadian Trust or ScotiaBank branch - you can use your card in Canada and withdraw converted Canadian funds from your U.S. bank account. There's a small fee but not a huge one - I just feel it is more respectful to use Canadian money when I'm in Canada, and I go there a lot.

  • Ottawa took U.S. cash.
  • They will take US Cash and Visa, youre better off with VIsa, they will have a set exchange rate for US currency that will be crazy
