Saw some other appreciation threads and wanted to start one for X!

I have been a steadily growing fan of this band for a couple of years now, and with each item of their discography I listen to my fondness of them grows even stronger. Rob (imalive) recently let me borrow their Live At The Whiskey A Go-Go album and it was awesome to say the very least.

John Doe
Exene Cervenka
DJ Bonebreak
Billy Zoom

Those four created some fantastic records together! I am pretty partial to the small amount of time Tony Gilkyson was in the band as well... that era produced "See How We Are" which in my opinion is one of X's best records. Almost forgot to mention that Dave Alvin had a good hand in that album too.

Just recently learned they are playing in Las Vegas on December 11th for $25 and am currently working out the details of making the trip. 8-)

Share your X thoughts, experiences, and appreciations here!

See How We Are happens to be the only X album I have on vinyl, so I'm partial to that one as well.

I've seen John Doe solo a few times (including PJ20) but I've only seen X one time. It was in 1998 at the Guinness Fleadh, which was a huge outdoor festival, but X was playing on a small stage that was set up in a fully-enclosed tent. It was hotter than hell in there, but the atmosphere was great. It was almost like seeing them play in a club.

That sounds awesome! I saw John Doe for the first and only time at PJ20 and am now really looking forward to a full X show this winter.

Love me some X. X and Los Lobos are two criminally underrated L.A. bands.

And speaking of L.A., Los Angeles is probably my favorite X album, just for the memories it brings back of growing up in socal. Seen them a few times, and saw Exene on her solo tour when her first album was released.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

    Seriously. Only three of us?

Well, maybe after the Latin America tour, there will be some converts.

Hopefully, but honestly... I've loaned some of my X CD's to friends and others and they just don't get it. To each their own, but I think beyond the surface, X is an incredible band. John Doe is a hugely underrated song-writer, and Exene as a lyricist is overlooked herself.

"Los Angeles" is a record that all rock fans should at least hear, if not add to their collection. It's a milestone in the genre, and X did a HUGE amount for bringing L.A. to an important level in the punk scene.

I like punk, but I certainly don't love it... I think X is one of the much more sophisticated punk bands out there and I really admire the attitude they've had towards their music over the years.

Their DIY approach is much appreciated by me at least.
