I would agree that almost all of the songs on the list were awesome but, to me, Education and In the Moonlight weren't great songs to hear live.
Now, if we are talking about night 2 - Wash and No Way were awesome.0 -

I thought 'In The Moonlight' was kick ass with Josh Homme, that song just fits his style/sound of music....1998 Dallas (7/5) 2006 San Fran (7/15,7/16) 2009 San Fran (8/28) 2010 Bristow (5/13) NY (5/21) 2011 Alpine Valley (9/3,9/4)

This again?
The small (but vocal) minority of fans who criticized PJ20 do not represent everyone. There will always be a dissenting opinion on pretty much every issue so I don't know why you're all that surprised by the negative reaction.
Be happy you were there. I sure wish I had the chance to go.0 -

I know that a lot of people loved Education and In the Moonlight but if I were to list my highlights from Alpine, I don't think that those songs would make my top moments of the weekend - Wash, No Way, Sonic reducer, TOTD reunion, Faithful, Love Reign O'er Me, Black (with the awesome crowd sing-a-long), etc0 -

I am not criticizing PJ20 - I had an awesome time. I just have different highlights from the show.0 -

This song was really starting to grow on me, and then hearing it live thrust it into one of my favorites.
Josh Homme's harmonies were awesome, and Mike's solo was a slow burner with lots of taste.

My only complaint with night 1 was how abrupt it ended... but that was more because of bad scheduling and starting late.
The setlist they played was UNREAL... in that main set you had no idea where they were going next - I wish every show was like that.

i thought help help built up pretty well. that was neat to see0

What was so remarkable about In the Moonlight and Education (and really almost everything they played on night one outside of perhaps Who You Are) was how ridiculously tight they sounded. More often than not it seems like when Pearl Jam plays something obscure most of the appeal is in the emotional response to hearing something unexpected while the actual performances are somewhat rough (to downright disastrous on occasion) and leave something to be desired. You could tell they really took the time to have those two songs perfected before busting them out (especially In the Moonlight...the way that song is written it just begs to be fucked up, but they really locked in and killed it).
I really think the biggest thing people seem to miss about these shows was just how well the band played. Whereas the release of the Philadelphia 2009 bootlegs left a lot of people looking back and realizing the performances were at times very sloppy and it became a "you had to be there" affair, I think people will be stunned when/if they release these shows and they hear just how on point the band was (ESPECIALLY night one).0 -
I loved everything about night 1, but especially In the Moonlight. I even posted that I hope they played it, never really thinking they would.
I had a list of never heard live and got most crossed off! It could not have been a better line up for me. I do have to say though that the emotional energy on night 2 was great....Just an incredible weekend all the way around and I am so glad I was there!
"I'd rather be with an animal." "Those that can be trusted can change their mind." "The in between is mine." "If I don't lose control, explore and not explode, a preternatural other plane with the power to maintain." "Yeh this is living." "Life is what you make it."0 -

I just wanted to point out this particular segment of the show. I am sure that no one has discussed these particular 11 songs lol.
I myself did not even realize how strange of a setlist this was until looking it over again today.severed hand thirteen2006: Gorge 7/23 2008: Hartford 6/27 Beacon 7/1 2009: Spectrum 10/30-31
