 I am getting ready to travel to Vancouver, and need a little help: The hotel area code is 604 , should I sign up for International Calling on my Verizon phone? Also, I am not a credit card carrier- debit or cash only, so are there ATM's for Americans or should I bring cash only? What about at the venue for PJ Merch, cash only?
Please reply before Friday.....and thanks Pearl Jam fans,I really appreciate all the help and support :)

We actuallyt don't use money at all but trade seal skin.

In reality you might want to sign up for international calling and something to protect against roaming charges, also we would have several atm's and the merch tables would have both debit and cash being accepted. Enjoy your trip and remember your passport.
That is actually what she said

hey, I would suggest phoninh verizon and finding out what kind of packages you need for canada, here we have us and international packages for our phones, so it may be a canada package available through them, as far as cash, most of our atms do accept a u.s card just gotta double check what systems your debit card works on, usually shows the symbols on the back, I don;t know for sure on store purchases if they work as when I come to the states my debit card sometimes doesn't work in some stores, also it doesn't work in select atms but that is usually rare, you may be charged a small exchange fee by your bank, best to use cash and hit the bank machine when needed.

    any other sugggestions by anyone?

Turn off your data plan and don't use roaming.

You'll want to have a camera ready cause Sasquatches are everywhere.

    bgirl59,
ATM's work just fine. If you can bring a little Canadian cash with you, that always helps. Also does your debit card have a Visa or Mastercard logo on it? If so that helps, and can be used almost anywhere, otherwise you will only be able to use at ATM's then pay with cash.

if it says ATM then Americans can use it, if it's an Eh-TM then it's only for Canadians!

In most theaters PJ20 is a part of a double feature, sharing the bill with "Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo".

the roaming with verizon is what will kill your wallet.
you might want to shut off data exchanging.
unless you want to facebook or browse internet,..
they really killed me while i was in toronto.
    best of luck and enjoy.

get accustomed to staying in an igloo

if you say you're from 'the states' you'll be assumed to carry a gun (by total strangers)

ignore any rioting...just walk around it

you'll be asked to please use the seperate venue entrance marked "yanks"

if venturing downtown beware the wildlife on east hastings

you're required to read french...but only half the time

you're also required to know the metric system...all the time

you'll experience lots of contact high from the sasquatchs kush

a much more into it, energetic PJ crowd

have a blast! vancouver's beautiful...can't wait for this show :)

Call your bank to let the know you will be traveling before you go.
Most will consider it international travel and might block your card depending on the security settings you have on your accounts. ( which is a good thing for normal day to day )
Phone call is worth it if saves you a headache ;)

I am in Calgary now. Tried to get cash from the ATM at the gas station- had to find a 'Royal Bank' machine and got cash...but my debit card is from BOA. I wouldn't use the debit for everything since the banks will charge a currency conversion fee, about 2-3% of the transaction total every time you use it. I added Canadian roaming, data and messaging to my plan. It will still cost me $0.60/min for calls so I'm texting for now. See ya in Vancouver!
