Yes, support the troops but resist war. And yes, love your country but even more, love and respect your planet.

Incredibly brave kid to go back into fire again and again to try and save both American and local lives.
Best part of the story is he did it in spite of being denied approval to do so 4 times by his officers.
Whatever your political beliefs it should be a no-brainer to offer mad respect for someone who goes to such amazing extremes to save people. I am sure there will be some on this board who may come and shit on him though. What these poor kids are coming back to is a shame.

I sure hope not, and doubt it. I don't think anyone here would shit on these kids after what they've been through. I'm close to a couple of those soldiers and seen first hand how war affects them. They need our support 100%. We should have learned that from the war in Viet Nam.

On a side note, the first generation of Dakota's, Skyler's, and Bodhi's are now upon us in the professional field. The Howie's, Roger's, and Stan's of the world will soon fade away into retirement.

The tragic reality is that the limited rules of engagement place this soldier in that predicament and probably resulted in the deaths of some of the men in his 90 man task force. Walking into an ambush, calls for air and artillery support were squelched due to the rules of engagement constraints. The fire fight was into it's 80th minute before the first helicopter reached the scene.
    ...
If we aren't going to fight the way in which we train our military to fight... then, we need to leave. Tasking our soldiers to do the work of policement and nation builders is a disgrace and a dishonor to their commitment to duty.
    ...
Support our troops by calling for their safe return from other people's lands.

    Personal Commentary:
To those Americans that bought into the Swift Boat crap of the 2004 election... I have to say, 'Fuck You!'
    ...
That is not because of my feelings toward either John Kerry or George W. Bush... but, the disrespect that was shown to the medals that were awarded to Kerry. To believe the crap that Political Action Commitee was selling, meant you had to buy into the belief that the U.S. Navy and Military hand out Navy Stars and Purple Hearts like so many worthless Cracker Jack trinkets. In doing so, you disrespect ALL Navy Star and Purple Heart recipients and dishonor their courage and commitment to honor and duty.
So, as Americans pay tribute to this Medal of Honor recipient... I hope they look back in shame at their disrespectful actions in the name of partisan political bullshit... and learn from it. You don't have to honor the man, his politics or his personality... you MUST honor his courage that earned him his medals.

Just imagine if everyone in this country had the dedication and courage that Dakota Meyer had. Not just in war, but in everything we do. It would be a much different country.
