It was incredible The Strokes got people pumped. Julian killed it with PJ and Eddie made me like juicebox more than I already did. I wish they released bootlegs for The Strokes, Queens, and Mudhoney. An extremely special experience, will never forget that just wish I coulda got a poster

I loved The Strokes at PJ20.
I also loved Not For You with Casablancas.

Red Mosquito, however, was destroyed by Casablancas' voice. I couldnt tell if his voice just doesnt fit in the song, or if his mic was turned up way too loud. The chorus just sounded really, really bad IMO. The guy I went to the shows with said the same thing as well.

I thought Red Mosquito was cool. The 1st few lines he sang were a little overbearing, but that was quickly fixed. Either he backed off, or they did it at the board. The part where he sang the "I was bitten...." during Ed's "If I had known then...." part definitely added to the song. I'm not sure if powerful is the right word, but his voice has a quality in it that makes it very prevalent.

Only heard Not For You a couple times. Not as much of a fan of that, but think he was a long way from ruining the song since most of what he did was during the little chimy outro part.

to me, at the end of Red Mosquito, when he and Ed were singing different lines, it almost sounded like he messed it up and ended up on different lines.
  • This thread is a joke, right? He absolutely ruined Not For You.

  • I thought both were awesome, and I thought the Strokes opening for PJ was perfect. Love Julian's voice. I bet majority of people who hate him or the strokes are 30+. You could see how the crowd was almost divided during the Strokes. Back of the seated section (Higher Ten Club #'s so I'm figuring younger) was rocking. The front section (Low Ten Club #'s) seemed not in to it as much. Just my opinion.

yeh it has to be. no one with any degree of hearing could possibly have anything positive to say about his performance.

off key, out of time, destroyed the outtro of n4y with some juvenile ramblings about "jamming with his favourite band"... regarding the ends of both songs, he just finished them abruptly with no feel of the song- like he wanted to get out of there... i think the outtro to RM was also an error, not an intended layer.

as well as this he looked like a try hard with his fluro boots, leather jacket and sunglasses at night.

maybe he was unprepared? maybe he's just a dud.. but looking back, he should not have shared the stage.

for RM he didnt even look like he wanted to come out, almost like he was embarrassed after his cringeworthy efforts the night before. he actually took the mic stand from the front of stage back to matts kit. so i applaud him for realising this... ah well.

after 8 yrs, corin tucker is finally off the hook.

I don't know about that. The Strokes broke out in 2001 and peaked in 2003, so it's not like they're from the buzz bin or something.

I thought they sounded amazing Friday and weak Saturday but that could be because I was in good seats Friday.

It was a dream come true seeing them open for PJ -- the perfect opening band, imo, with the tempo and quality of their songs.

It's funny, the criticisms people have of JC regarding his voice, mannerisms, etc., I am sure we could dig into concert review archives and find people saying the same thing about Eddie.

"His voice sounds different", "What the hell was he wearing", "He seemed nervous or shy or awkward", "He seemed in awe of his favorite band".

Plenty of comments about Ed's voice back in the day, all of them wore clothes equally as ridiculous as JC's neon Nikes, Ed would turn from the audience as if afraid at times, and has gushed plenty about The Who, Neil Young, etc.

There are so many haters of The Strokes on this forum- its ridiculous. They are one of the best bands of the last decade. I agree that he may have messed up Not For You towards the end, but it in no way ruined the song.
