That one line... From the song "Cropduster"

edited June 2008 in The Porch
"This ain't no book you can close
When the big lie hits your eye
like a big pizza pie".

I can't be the only one annoyed by that - I don't know what the actual lyrics are, but that's what I hear every time I listen to the song & it's driving me completely nuts.

  • Yes. The much-maligned maligned Riot Act seemingly gave fans many reason to be annoyed.

But this ain't one of them. What are you talking about?
Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.
  • the title annoys me more than anything

That's what I was thinking. Riot Act does have the worst lyric ever written by PJ on it, but it is not in Cropduster.

Oooh - guessing game time... :D

"Love Boat Captain, take the reins and steer us t'wards the clear" ?
"Love is a tower and you're the key" ?

That's exactly what he says. He says "When the big lie hits your eye like a big pizza pie". I've listened to that song a billion times & that's exactly what he says.

Well, I've always said Cropduster was about circles, so I guess the pizza pie imagery fits, even if it's not actually in the song. :p

I think that line is in reference to the light from the television hitting your eyes.

Is the comedian that started this thread talking about thats amore?

I was thinking the line from Ghost that someone posted below: "I never knew soap made you taller"

i think that refers to a "soap-box," as in, standing on your soap box makes you (or what you have to say) more important. i think, at least....television reference before that, so it makes sense. i don't think its a bad lyric

There's nothing about light in the song Cropduster. All I know is that the song is about some gigantic pizza pie flying through the air - off a balcony - possibly in a big city like San Diego or New York & it landing right on someone's face with a triumphant "WhaBOOSH!!" sound. Not just on their face, but the whole pizza pie right in their eye.
    That's amore.

Also, some of you are really, really bad at deciphering lyrical meanings, and I'll just leave it at that.
