Recently, a fellow poster suggested that I seem to be "against everything". In a way, that was a good call. Often times here on AMT I've been very critical in my response to several political and (especially) environmental issues. I won't apologize for the critical remarks I've made- they've all been made with a good deal of forethought. But what about the positive things that we're doing?

So here is a place to post things that we are doing right- things we are doing to make our world better, healthier, more just, more livable, more kind. I'll start off by posting an article published in "On Earth", the monthly publication of The Natural Resource Defense Council (NRDC).

Concealed beneath the streets of our great cities are thousands of miles of pipes and tunnels that carry away our wastewater. In big eastern cities such as Philadelphia, this system can date back to the nineteenth century. As urban populations have expanded and streets have been paved over, the volume of domestic sewage and contaminated rainwater after storms often overwhelms our treatment plants. These combined sewage overflows can't be allowed to back up into city streets, so they only have one place to go -- into our waterways.

Cities can spend billions maintaining and upgrading this antiquated gray infastructure -- or they can follow Philadelphia's lead and turn instead to green infrastructure. The principle is simple: instead of struggling to cope with the volume of water rushing through the sewers, prevent it from getting there in the first place by capturing it and filtering it slowly and naturally through the soil.

Over the next 25 years, Philadelphia will retrofit one-third of the paved areas serving its combined sewer system with green infrastructure that will capture the first inch of rainfall. These “green acres” are the central element in a plan that will cost $2.4 billion (a savings of billions over the all-gray alternative) and is aimed at making Philadelphia America’s greenest city.

hay bro nobody wants to talk about the good things people do on here or the good things that come about from military spending like inventions used to make everyday life a little eassyer or medical advancements in the world today with cancer or aids because this place is all about finger pointing at the rich people who help to make these thing's happen.....but we have to admit it's a wild ride and a lot of fun. ;)

read this then try and figure time into it, as far as time in that respect I would have to agree with you and your theory on time.

    Thanks for encouragement, Godfather!

More media coverage of renewable energy would help as this article suggests:

I've been telling people that this is included in our infrastructure rebuilding needs. But, people are people: they know nothing, but speak like they know everything. IKE did it, why can't a president with a D next to his name

I have a question for you: what exactly is there to be "for" nowadays, anyway?

Increased dependence on government subsidy? Lack of liability for corporations? Personal freedoms eroding? Racially biased hiring practices? Farms being hijacked?

You have idiots protesting on Wall Street because they want the state to regulate Wall St. more, however, the same State that they love so much, is making sure they get pepper sprayed and beaten.

These banks and firms can get away with stealing hundreds of millions of dollars, and get bonuses for it, from THE STATE, who these dumb kids want to have more regulating rights.

Basically, the answer is, there is no answer. Corporations are not your friends. Government is not your friend. Democrats and Republicans eat Surf and Turf together at the same hotels and country clubs, and then, "debate" each other on TV. It's a fucking joke.

I applaud anyone who has the courage to say "fuck you" to all of it, and hope that anarchy ensues. People are not generally good-natured, as much as many people on these forums wish to think otherwise. I'm all about the impending revolution.

Definitely NOT positive johnny. There are plenty of other gripe oriented threads. The idea here was to have at least one place to say something positive. If you really have NOTHING positive to say fine, just take the griping somewhere else please.
