Wow, how incredible is this PJ20 book?

I know that their story has been told countless times, but this blows every other attempt away (well, that Goldmine article back in the day was pretty amazing, but anyway).

I'm only 75 pages in and feel like I'm learning so much. It's like I can't wait to finish it but I don't want it to end (which I'm sure the movie will echo).

Anyone else feel that this "official" book is leaps and bounds better than what you may have expected?

  • I completely agree...AWESOME. Can anyone identify what show(location/year) the very first picture is from?...the one that is inside the front cover?

I just cant imagine a movie being better than a book. Anyone have any examples otherwise?! 'Moneyball' is coming out next week...starring Brad Pitt! I had no intentions to see it, but Jonah Hill just makes me laugh so I will go and tell myself, again, the book was better. Than again, Pearl Jam is a documentary so I am hoping book and movie exceed my expectations than.

I just took the book jacket off so it doesn't get worn...

    Not to derail this but

    A) the movie is not a version of the book. The 2 have nothing to do with each other (other than the subject matter). That is,Crowe did not read the book and say - gee, lets make a movie out of that.

    B) while your premise is generally true, there are plenty of examples. As good as the short story it's based on is, Shawshank Redemption is an all timer.
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

Yeah Shawshank is definitely one time where the movie is better than the book. The short story is good but the movie is a home run.

    What this person said.

Also Austin Powers International Man of Mystery book wasn't near as good as the movie.

    PJ20 movie is nearly as fun/funny. :-)

through first two chapters already and I have laughed, been awed....unreal how thorough this book is. No more questions on the origins after this book! The attention to detail in the items and pictures included is amazing too. I am glad these guys are pack rats, as they saved so much cool stuff ala the Pearl jam museum. What other band lets you into their world like this?

157 pages into this book and I gotta say it has been awesome so far. Love the stuff on Temple of the Dog and Eddie stepping in and singing his part on Hunger Strike. Cornell had no idea what was going on and then realized this guy sounds amazing!!! Can't wait to read more!

Yeah I stopped at page 137 (just finished 1993) and figured I'd save the rest for tomorrow. While not a traditional "book" since it's got so many pictures and all, this is still the most I've read of a book in one day in quite some time.

The Temple stuff was so great! And learning that there is a studio version of Baba O'Riley somewhere? Crazy.

And the Brendan O'Brien/Betterman thing was insane.

Forrest Gump. Much better than the book. It's my favorite movie.

But yeah, I can't wait to get my hands on the book!

"Into the Wild" movie is also much better than the book. The book got boring at a certain point.

Yeah, the book did drag on, and actually made me grow annoyed with McCandless. The movie was good.
