I haven't read the whole thread, but I'd like to mention that this song, to me, is a metaphor for a troubled relationship. The "tremor christ" is the cause and solution to all of the narrator's problems. The narrator is weighing the decision to leave or stick with the tremor christ, and eventually decides to put his/her faith and love in tremor christ.“Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you’ve got about a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies — ‘God damn it, you’ve got to be kind.’” - Kurt Vonnegut0

one of the songs i liked in vitalogy...i always perceive it as a song about not losing faith...what is essential is invisible to the eye
