How do you catch Ed's pre-sets?

I'm eagerly awaiting my 14-16th shows coming up starting 10d from today, and I've NEVER seen a pre-set.
I've arrived very early, went straight to my seat, and stayed put til a few songs into the opening act - but still somehow missed it. Once, at the MGM in Vegas, I gave my 10c tic's to my brothers and upgraded to a lower # by connecting with someone who'd travelled alone for the show. We met my donor o/s and the four of us went in together. My bro's split off to get in a beer line and my new friend and I continued on towards our seats. We made a very efficient pit stop on the way and proceded straight to our seats. When I met back up with my brothers, they remarked about how cool it was to finally see a pre-set. Needless to say, I decided to attack my older brother, and although I think I did pretty good, confirmed that he was (is) still way tougher than me,, and had a raspberry (that looked more like ground beef) on my elbow for the remainder of my "pre-set"-less tour to prove it. Damn those Fat Tuesday's and their extra shots of grain alcohol.
....but, I digress. Any insight as to how to go about witnessing these pre-sets? I might not get to see some classics like Dead Man or Soon Forget, due to a drastic increase in Ed's solo repertoire, but I don't want to, nay can not, miss any future classics from show #'s 14 - 3xx (gotta think positively )

Same question for soundchecks, minus the drawn-out anecdote.

Thanks in advance to those who take the time to reply.

If Ed does a pre-set, it is usually before the beginning of the opening act (it is kind of him to do it - it is a way to pull people in to check out the opening act). Occasionally he has come out during the opening act and done a song with them. It doesn't happen all the time, but if you be in your seat before the opening act starts, and stay there for the whole time, you won't miss it. Even if I'm not into the opening act I always give them a chance - it is part of the show and a way to see something you might not be familiar with.

Soundchecks well you just have to be there super early (like 4 I think). It varies. I've only heard a couple as I'm too far away from most shows to get there much before the doors open. Outdoor shows give you a better chance of hearing it.

I would think Mudhoney would need more help than My Morning Jacket did.

When was the last Ed pre set, Toronto 09 notwithstanding? I caught 2 in 05, but I'm not sure he's done this in a long while...06 maybe?
  • I've only seen one Pre-set (Camden '08.) There really isn't much of a trick to it. Just get to your seat and stay there

Seriously! Does the OP have a problem catching Pearl Jam as well? Be in your seat when he takes the stage.

In Stockholm 2000 Ed did; Last Kiss, Dead Man, Parting Ways and Through Youre Arms Around Me as a pre-set and Copenhagen 2007 he did Through youre arms Around Me. Both times he did it before the opener so you got to be there early to get it.

    Very cool
