Difference between outbox and sent in private messages?

Has a pm been sent if it shows in your outbox but not sent folder? I am anxiously awaiting some pictures and I'm not sure the message went through...

    Yeah, what he said. Don't delete the message from Outbox! Once it's been read, it'll move on.
