It will only get better. While technically not the "first night", it pretty much is and those shows tend to have rather standard sets. Not to say that it was, but it doesn't stand out for me personally.
my only minor tiny little gripe with the pj20 weekend was that binaural was completely left out (not that it put a damper on my experience, i just fucking LOVE that record)
loving the diversity, i fucking love non album tours
can't wait to be in toronto
i have a paper here that entitles me to fast track status
I was one of the haters after Alpine Valley night one. Boy did they ever get me back last night. Such a strong setlist, the thing just kept building and building. Sure they played all the big hits, which some people are tired of hearing, but those songs got the crowd whipped into a frenzy. The Montreal crowd to me, seemed like the loudest I ever heard. I was so sad after Saturday night but I'm back baby! Great setlist, great crowd, great facility, great city. All is good in Canada today. Can't wait for Toronto 1 and 2.
I think its on par with night 2, for sure. Depends on what you like.
Sleight is probably one of my top 3 songs. And Come Back is up there. Still, it will be hard for any show to top PJ20 Night 2 for me. Of course, as I've mentioned before, the lure of PJ20 wasn't about the setlists.
everybody wants the most they can possibly get
for the least they could possibly do
I wasn't at Montreal and I'm sure it was awesome to be there, but just looking at the setlists, PJ20 v.1 and PJ20 v.2 both kicked Montreal's ass up and down, forward and backwards.
But with as many great songs as PJ have and as many different opinions we all as fans have, each show is the best for someone.

yeah these past 3 setlists have defiantly been ones that people would all have different opinions on and Montreal kills almost any setlist I can even think of right now IMO
This is exactly why Pearl Jam will never win. In my opinion if they played the Montreal setlist at PJ20 I would have been pissed off. I have heard all those songs countless times.
PJ20 Night 1 is the greatest setlist I have seen live. All my opinion obviously.
With so many fans & such a diverse catalog they can not please everyone.

I agree that they can never win with some of these fans around here. But I disagree about being pissed off at a setlist like that. I think some fans clamor for the rare songs a bit too much around here. For example, when I play PJ on my ipod I'm rarely playing songs like Given to Fly or Elderly Woman first, but when I hear it live in a room with thousands of other people losing their minds, its the best shit on earth! I agree with the OP, I think that setlist last night was near perfection.
You can take Bee Girl and Bugs and Fatal and I'm happy with Black and Corduroy and Last Exit, songs I've heard a lot live that still get me going!

The Montreal crowd to me, seemed like the loudest I ever heard.
Seconded. I haven't been to many shows yet, but the crowd at the Bell Centre was amazing. I think we blew the boys away on Black.
Edit: Oh, building into the second encore also. The volume was insane.
Oh, yeah! That was def. the loudest crowd I've ever been in, and Black was impressive, with the crowd participation. INSANE!!!
And I thought the set list was amazing, too.
The crowd WAS phenomenal and LOUD. But not as loud as MSG2 2011... not overall, and NOTHING touches Better Man there. Rumor has it you'll see that in PJ20 in 12 days.

yeah I am a huge fan of a lot of the songs played tonight that a lot of people don't like, it is a setlist made for me haha
Totally. Come Back, Sleight, and 1/2 Full are my standouts from tonight.
