when does PJ20 start?
now that the Temple of the Dog reunion/Chris Cornell hogging the stage/Pearl Jam covering other artists has ended.

  • i'm really bitter i missed it, i don't understand what you're complaining about. i'm sure you've seen pearl jam sans chris cornell plenty of times, this sounds like it was pretty special to me.

Rest assured, you do not speak for me.

    Even remotely.

one night would have been enough

I certainly think the original poster is a little out of line, but I can see how some may have your opinion. That said, when is this going to happen again? I think that as a consideration, two nights of TOTD is momentous and something to be thankful for.

Yeah. I DO NOT understand the complaining about Cornell's appearances. He is an integral part of PJ's history and I for one would have been HONOURED to have been in attendance to see him perform some classic tunes with the boys....

temple of the dog is legendary. if you can't appreciate temple of the dog at PJ20, then maybe it's time you follow another group of musicians.

My mind was blown when I heard about Cornell joining them in LA for Hunger Strike...to have seen probably the only two TOTD performances that will ever be is the stuff of dreams.

One or two songs would have been enough for me-hungerstrike and say hello to heaven.
Id rather hear ed sing pj songs. Its a valid complaint if you dont care for TOTD.

But people had to know there would be a lot of collaboration at this event.

I loved every second of it. The only disappointment was "reach down" being played both nights. I was really hoping for "times of trouble" night two.

A casual fan may have gotten sick of it by the 4th song. The guy next to me seemed pissed. But i loved it.

Don't forget, they played 2.5 hours night 1 and 3 hours night 2. So even without TOTD, it was over 2 hrs.

And seeing Ed and Chris on Hunger Strike together was awesome. It's their shows. Yeah, they play more covers than I'd like sometimes, but doing what they want is what makes them great.

I'm surprised that there aren't more people bitching about that Strokes singer coming on and murdering a couple of Pearl Jam songs with his 'backing vocals'...

  • Can't really hate a PJ fan for not wanting to hear and see another singer taking over the lead, even if it was 1 song but 3 or 4 I get it.

Soundgarden fans would be just as upset if Eddie showed up and did 4 UKE SONGS at one of their shows.

Hunger Strike fits right in to a PJ set...Reach Down not so much. Say Hello to Heaven.... meh

Seems like night 2 was moving right along just fine then BAM ! Like traffic on the Highway...the crowd vibe slowed to a crawl during reach down.

Wash opening...awesome, Given to fly...crowd nuts, Pilate...I'm nuts, LBC, Habit, then they hit a mega high with Daughter/it's ok (my best moment) and on and on....getting close to blowing my....boom...... and then...Reach Down and I'm limp.

Ironically ...It's the song I'm humming to myself when I wake up this morning :D

    Can you see me now
    I am myself
    Like you somehow

I love ToTD... I remember listening to it almost as much as Ten and I love Soundgarden so naturally its just a great album a great fit.

That said... they could've done 2 songs a night and really given the crowd a huge boost and not overstayed the welcome.

Night 1 it felt like they killed the crowd with Reach Down and then got it going again with Hunger Strike.

Night 2 it felt like once CC stayed on stage after Hunger Strike there was a huge collective groan from the crowd.

And Reach Down is TOO long a song to play TWICE. They had two repeats and both were to satisfy CC...

Like I said I was thrilled to see it night 1, but I really wanted last night to be about Pearl Jam.

And what we gave up for the extended ToTD stuff (that was on the setlist but dropped for time):
Night 1 -All Those Yesterdays, Present Tense, I got Shit, Down
Night 2 - Crown of Thorns and the Real Me

i would have trade two CC songs each night for the above stuff in a heartbeat. Call me crazy, but I'd rather have PJ songs than 4 ToTD songs.

I agree with you about the TOTD songs. But it wasnt to satisfy CC. It was to remember AW IMHO.

    This. . .

As I have said, I can appreciate WHY he was there, but if the history is THAT important to everyone that he needs so much time in the main set, give him his own time slot in the schedule. Don't take away from my pj please!!!!!
  • In all seriousness, Pearl Jam played 5 1/2 hours over the course of the weekend. The Temple of the Dog stuff was a very small part of it.

And frankly, if Ed hadn't gotten the breather on Night 2, I'm not sure he would have made it to midnight. Dude was hauling balls all night.

Sometimes, I think Pearl Jam fans need to crawl out of their Pearl Jam hole and realize there happens to be other good bands out there. One of them actually includes four current members of Pearl Jam.

It's not going to be ok for people who are unhappy to keep posting and posting about it in an attempt to ruin the environment for people who are happy about what they saw and heard. If you've already made your feelings known on a thread, it might be a good idea now to just log out and come back when it's being handled better. Please do not make us do this for you. Thank you.
