Dave Abbruzzese/Krusen and Pete Best comparisons

edited July 2008 in The Porch
They (Abbruzzese/Best) both were uncerimoniously dumped from their respective bands right when things were taking off, having only been with their bands for a few years. Both dismisals have been marred in rumor for years. Both seemed to be with the right bands at the right time, as Chamberlain and Krusen were gone before PJ was really ready to hit its crescendo, so-to-speak. Makes you wonder how the history of both bands would be different if they were not fired. Both possibly would be regarded as legendary drummers today in the music world but instead are now simply relegated to footnotes in music history and answers on Trivial Pursuit games. Granted, Abbruzzese contributed much more to PJ's history than Best was to the Beatles legacy and he was critical to launching Vitalogy. Krusen can be thrown in here in that if he did not go to rehab and got things straight after recording Ten, he could have become one of most endearing drummers ever, but the truth is he was gone before PJ's popularity really took off. It's interesting to think of how each drummer would be perceived today in music history if things took a different course.

Krusen left on his own terms after recording Ten, and Abb was booted while the band were at their most popular point, so a Pete Best comparison for either is kind of a stretch...
