we walked for miles that night‬
‪hand in hand, never wanting the sun to rise‬
the dust gathering between our toes‬
much like the heaviness on our hearts‬
500 plates in the street broken,‬
‪just like our dreams‬
now just memories of a forgotten lust of another kind‬
the water current was swift and deadly‬
the crossing would be of great risk‬
one we were both willing to take‬
the swollen river hungry for our flesh,‬
would be deprived this night‬
in the soft light of the moon‬
you recognized yourself in me,‬
and me in the reflection of the black water‬
and with that recognition‬
came fear‬
fear of the unknown‬
fear of the past, the present‬
and what was to be the future‬
like some unwanted wedding dress‬
discarded were our plans….‬
we left them there,‬
burning‬
on the banks of the Ohio
Peace, Love.

This was to be included in a section called "Reflections" in the poetry book I'm still sitting on.

Thank you very much. You are all too kind.
