poetry discussion

can we have a discussion about poetry? writer's block comes and goes with whatever and wherever the writer's life is turning, ect. i had a online conversation about 10 years ago with a writer who enlightened me on breaking through the block of writing creatively.

the youngman simply said to me, "write down what you think of, what you see, no matter the ridiculous amount of bullshit making zero sence." i took it as writing down one's instant thoughts. on october 12th 2007 i started a thread in the poetry section called, "instant thoughts (add yours if you like)"

that thread has recently been locked up tighter than the hubs of hell with some 8,126 replies and 73,135 views. sure some posts were not poetry at all. sure some posts were horseshit. i am to blame for sometimes posting chatting type discussions or whatever.

instant thoughts (add yours if you like) was on page 1 in the poetry section from the time of its creation rarely falling back to page 2. generally instant thoughts (add yours if you like) was at the top of the poetry section for what is closing in on 4 wonderous years, in turn making me extremely inspired, grateful, and overwhelmed.

why overwhelmed? because many of the great folks on here have added/shared with us all when in fact they did not have to and they chose to use instant thoughts (add yours if you like) as their platform for their poetic feelings which is based here in the pearl jam message board, which used to be free to the public. writing poetry and sharing it online is not always the best decision anyway. i believe this site should consider how lucky they are to have such a large number of poets who do share their talents here, they could always go elsewhere.

i am sad, deeply actually. this has been how i have been feeling since its closing. honestly, i never thought it would be closed. i must say that many moons ago, i did ask Kat or Sea to close it because i was pissy about something and probably about half out of my mind.

by the way, after pming "the boss" i have received zero response from the 10c administration. "the boss" in this case not being bruce springsteen, but our hard working chieftains.

i feel like my dog was hit by a car and died on the side of the highway. sad stuff.

poetry is my gig, it is who i am. and this bites hard. i hope this does not get me banned. seems the only way i'll get any response is to write this and hit submit.. or stuff this letter into a envelope and mail to Seattle.

can we petition for the return?

because it was a staple here... it was like peanut butter...

    It was Chadwick and friends

it's having something missing now and one looks for it
for pages then remembers it is gone

it's years of peoples lives and fun to read!

it lost its way and changed more to event sharing
not what Chad intended maybe from the start
but it was all good ... as good as good people

and it made us feel good to bond and share daily
for soooo long... before my time

I for one sign a petition and say please can it come back?

It was a good thing here ... Chadwick is a good thing here :D

art is that, therapeutic. painting, drawing, poetry, anything creative really. a long ass time ago i got off hard drugs by way of painting ceramics. it was powerful in regards to healing, rebuilding, and focusing on something beautiful vs' living life in the fast lane runnin' with the devil or whatever the negative energy i was keeping up with.

painting ceramics, stereo cranked up, a perfect day. nowadays it's writing poetry to live. if i did not crave this poetic way of life i believe i would be disowning my true self.

    art = therapy
art = crazy in the head
it is beautiful no matter the outcome, creating it, equivalent to dope
    artists really aren't even home
    have not been for years
    can't seem to land
    or desire to touch down
    just gone elsewhere

Chad, I had a writing intructor once who told me save every scrap of paper with a thought towards poems and stories. "Throw every one of them in a file drawer," he told me. Maybe think of that file drawer as full- locked but viewable and now here's your chance to start a new drawer.

    Hang in there with this.

There is a thread for this kind of discussion in All Encompassing Trip so please use that one. This forum is for poetry, etc. Thank you.

yet a lot of us were using that thread for little poems and the like. the one kat suggested we use, and im assuming she meant the whats on your mind thread(please correct me if im wrong.. wouldnt be the first time i was) when she shut down the instant thoughts thread in almost 2 years younger. and as a rule NOT the receptacle of poetry, in any form. after almost 4 years i was surprised that it was closed and that it took so long for its content to become an issue. i understand threads stay open at the discretion of the mods.. im just stating my opinion on the closure of one.

and thank you, catefrances. i'm kinda out of sorts these days, like lost and confused or something. some days i'd rather not even come visit here. i feel every single thing i post here is reviewed and judged for banning and whatnot.

then they take my poetry away from me, which in fact was also yours and other good folks' work too.
not cool beans with me at all. and it stops the progression of creativity in such a manner that is scattering thin.

I got to know quite a few wonderful ppl thru "instant thoughts" in the poetry section. I will miss it. :(

Since it started as a "writers block" kind of thread and somehow along the way turned into a "whats on your mind " kind of thread. I now understand why it may have been locked....

Chad, you can always start another Thread - ( "writers block" - post yours here. ) And that way all of the poets can use it to get creative. :)

I thought that having an 'Instant Thoughts' thread in the Poetry section gave it a very different spin from having an 'instant thoughts' thread in say the AET. I enjoyed the Poetry instant thoughts - sure there was conversation, and casual observation - but quite a lot of that thread - the writing was very creative. There was a lot of creative writing in that thread, and I think it fitted in the Poetry and Prose section. I saw several people start posting in that thread, before moving on to write some more substantial creative writing in the main section, and I also saw people who weren't regular 'poetic writers' from other parts of the board use it to write creatively. It can be intimidating to get started and to write in that section - and so I think it is a shame that this thread has now gone.

yes tremors i agree. i was always delighted when someone new showed up and they graced us with their presence through word tangling or something. some folks being new to writing poetry, intimidated of this place or whatever, unsure of themselves yet drawn to expression, release and possibly they are fulfilled for the first time in their life once poetry found them and them in poetry being lost together.

it is poetry not what's on one's mind like the threads in AET. instant thoughts has zero to do with anything other than writing out poetry, therefore, it is housed in the poetry section. most of my poetry is off the top of my head then edited a bit. nowdays i have figured out something which grants great success. it is flabbergasting how incredible writing can be with all the ins and outs, miles ink deep. all inside.

im not making a new instant thoughts thread. we want the one we currently were using brought back to life. it is ours and does not deserve to be locked up.

we can all lower the level of chatting or something, add poetry, possibly critque something , add a comment and that's it.

these are not huge demand, folks.

I would be very pleased if they brought it back - it was very spontaneous, and added a swifter kind of creativity to that section - which can move very slowly compared to the rest of the board, for understandable reasons. I think if they brought it back people would respect the fact that it's there for creative thoughts, and not just chatter.

If they don't bring it back, starting another thread for the same purpose: capturing spontaneous creative thoughts, words, feelings - I don't know what the title should be - might be an idea.
