sorry, but race and sexual orientation do not qualify as a "special group". it's called society.
exactly... kind of the whole point here... same punishment no special laws to punish
crimes against certain groups ... all crimes are against society... all victims want justice.
these the defined groups by hate crime laws
"Hate crime laws in the United States protect against hate crimes (also known as bias crimes) motivated by enmity or animus against a protected class. Although state laws vary, current statutes permit federal prosecution of hate crimes committed on the basis of a person's protected characteristics of race, religion, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, and disability."
Hey that's why I like coming here even though it takes beating your head against a wall and dealing with most people that never change their minds on ANYTHING. I can read what other people post, even if I disagree with their specific posts, it gets me to think deeper about things.
I was pretty much 100% against the "hate" crime label in the not so distant past. But I can see some value in in helping drive judge/jury to consider the risk to the rest of us when someone will hurt/kill someone over sexuality, etc.
By the way, you left off "perhaps"... slight oversight I'm sure.

I know. I'm just joshing you. that's the thing. people don't believe me when I say I come here to learn. I really do. even if I don't agree with people on certain issues, I still like hearing their perspective, even if it can occasionally get heated.
I remember the days when I believed Dubya was in the right going to Iraq after 9/11. After MANY animated discussions with a girl at work, and some research of my own (instead of just listening to CNN) it opened my eyes.
