I have no idea if they're "new" but I just saw The Donkeys open for The Hold Steady last night.

Going in, I knew nothing about them but I liked what I heard enough to pick up one of their albums on the way out the door. And they seemed to really have a good time onstage and not take themselves too seriously.

No problem. I saw them at Outside Lands a couple weeks ago having never heard a note of their music beforehand and loved them. One of my favorite discoveries of that weekend.

Tame impala ( I cannot stress this band enough. Its psychadelic 60's rock with john lennon vocals except done better than anything before it)

    White denim
    Friendly fires
    Foster the people

The last two bands are really indie and synth based rock but are still extremely catchy and great driving music

Edit: The Horrors. Incredible band. They sound like they stepped out of the 80's. Their new album is just amazing.
