Not to nitpick Idris, but a SWAT team isn't going to be breaking anybody's door down simply for smoking pot. I agree that marijuana laws need to change, but let's not be overly dramatic about it.

heavy body armor, sub machine guns, riot gear...what do you call them? Because they are the ones who do it, I have seen it being done, and it has happened to many people I know. First hand accounts.
Yes, all for smoking pot.
You need to factor in the incompetency of the 'American Intelligence' (hmm that's an Oxymoron) agencies and Police. Overreactions, wasting time and resources on pot smokers. Remember, it's a war on drugs. A silly war that only an idiot would support in it's current form.
A SWAT team is not going to be called in on pot smokers. Dealers, maybe, because there is a chance of conflict as many people protect a valuable stash. But just a couple people sitting around smoking pot and watching "The Wall" aren't going to find themselves looking down the barrel of a gun with their door splintered on the floor. Especially since in many states the amount a casual smoker would have is only considered a misdemeanor. I think here in Texas you have to have somewhere approaching a pound before you can be looking at a felony.
I seriously doubt you've seen a SWAT team bust down somebody's door for simply sitting there and smoking some weed. Now it is possible some bad intelligence might lead to police thinking a person is more involved in drugs than they really are, and busting in. Like the examples you listed. But that's a mistake, and not a policy. I've never even know a person get busted for possessing marijuana in their home. Everybody I know who ever got busted for pot, got busted driving around with it. And the time I got busted, the cop was cool and didn't even bring me up on charges, he dumped it out and sent me on my way.

I don't know if you're referring to food stamps here or not, but illegals can't get food stamps. Also, the whole thing about Americans being taxed too much is entitled complaining. If someone is taxed too much to where they can't afford decent food, then their spending is way off. If someone's income is low and they can't afford food, then that's a different story. They likely pay little in taxes and may qualify for food stamps which can help them afford better food.
Yes I was speaking of food stamps

errrr, exactly, it's about bad policy and stupidity.
That's not what I said. I said those 2 examples (the same two examples that always pop up) were mistakes and NOT policy. It isn't policy to use a SWAT team on people who are sitting around smoking pot with only a misdemeanor's worth of weed.
Now the drug policy (just punishing people in general, whether it be a ticket/fine, probation or jail time) I feel does need to change. But it's not like if you're sitting around with a quarter sack getting high and watching cartoons that your door is about to get rammed in. Once in a blue moon it happens, but it's a mistake. It's probably likely to have somebody else break into your house than the police.
And we get it, you think Americans are stupid. Common theme in most of your posts. And I'll just go ahead and say I'm stupid if it will make you feel better.
Besides it's not like there aren't drug raids in Canada. I remember about 5 years ago hearing about a raid in Canada where 4-5 RCMP were killed during a raid on a pot farm.

I think it funny when people who don't live in a region or country,
do not experience it first hand,
can pass judgements and feel they know and understand more than those that live it daily
those that see the downfall in their hometowns.
I wouldn't even pretend to know what it was like to have been in London during tough times.
I could read about, see it on TV but never really know or feel the impact.
The South's climate and proximity to Mexico
has attracted a huge percentage of the illegal workers
who stormed our country.
They then had children and now collect aid and over fill the schools
and have a cause and effect on many things.
Our corporations and business got very accustomed to nice low wages for labor,
no benefits, lower taxes... we all know about the greed.
The new laws in the South are an attempt for change. I appreciate the attempt.
I appreciate the attempt to keep more illegal immigrants from our state and the effort to fill
the jobs left empty by their departure with an American Workforce the unemployed,
the recently released from incarceration, the students who can not even find a summer job.

About %15 of the U.S. population is on food stamps, but if you think it's half, maybe you're overblowing things a bit. Children of illegals can't get food stamps either. Maybe you're thinking of WIC, which doesn't have citizenship requirements and is for mother's and children under 5 of poor nutrition. How does your son know all those people in the check-out line aren't American? Is he checking documentation, or assuming? Are you assuming?
I'm not sure why you're daughter is taking students loans and at the same time paying them. It's likely she has minimal tax withheld from her paycheck, and if it's more than that, she likely gets a chunk back in the Spring.
Your son's taxes mostly goes to pay for two wars, an oversized military, and our debt. A small fraction goes to people on food stamps. If a third of his paycheck goes to taxes, and he works 60-70 hrs/wk, then most likely he is spending his money in the wrong places if he can't go out on the weekend. He might get a return in the Spring, too.

My girl is paying the loans cause she doesn't want to owe a lot when she gets out of school.
She tries to keep up with them some. She got a return but not a whopper one
Well I think we may be assuming considering we are in Ga, lots of illegals here
but maybe not for long
I think its got to be more than 15% here seeing what we see every day.
It's like a third of the shoppers when you go to the stores in our area
middle to upper class. And that is a recent surge.
I wonder what is the wrong places... when its your money what you choose is right you know
it's what you want and need. He doesn't waste money if thats what you mean and
he's super thrifty much better than me and goes to cheap places too.

No, it's not sensationalism. llegal immigrants are to be barred from regular employment but it will still be fine to employ them to wash, cook, clean or look after the kids. It's a Jim Crow era style law. Pure and simple.
And as for where I live, and my right to comment on whatever the fuck I choose to comment on, this is irrelevant.

You need to check your sources and pull real world numbers. Here is my withholding:
Tax withholdings is 22%... Federal and State with Medicare and Social Security.
My tax liability is not going to be 22% because i have Schedule a write-offs to knock my gross annual income to a lower, taxable income.
...
At 33.3%, Your son is having too much withheld. Have him change his W-4.
ADD... The withholding is NOT the tax rate.

We to tell them to get the hell out of here and then say, "NO WAIT, pick our vegetable first, clean our floors, wash our sheets, clean our toilets. Done? You KNOW you're an illegal but here's a few bucks anyway. Ok, now get the hell out of here! (Don't forget to show up next week)."

Lawmakers in southern states enacting harsh measures against illegal workers are exempting domestics – a stunning hypocrisy
guardian.co.uk, Sunday 21 August 2011
Anyone who follows politics long enough develops a certain immunity towards cynicism. It becomes hard to be shocked or disappointed by the too often self-serving and hypocritical actions of our elected officials.
So, it was almost refreshing while covering harsh new immigration laws in the deep south of the United States to discover that architects of an especially tough new law in Alabama had put in a provision that would exempt "casual domestic labour".
I was actually stunned. For the first time in ages. Basically, the good folks in Alabama behind the law were saying that, while companies and factories and farmers and restaurant owners should not dare to employ illegal immigrants (who, according to them, are a threat to the US economy), it was still fine to employ them to wash, cook, clean or look after the kids.
That this was taking place in a state where, during segregation, wealthy white people used to regularly employ black maids as household help, just added insult to injury. It truly exposed some of the real social and political motivations behind the illegal immigration debate, especially in the south. As Isabel Rubio, of the Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama, said to me: "It's Alabama. It means you can still have your Latina household help."
Defenders of the exemption say it was put in because they did not want to trouble homeowners with having to use the E-Verify system to check someone's immigration status every time they hired casual labour. They say the law would still likely apply to people using long-term, or live-in, domestic employees who are illegal. That cuts no ice with me.
To my mind, it was simple self-serving hypocrisy. If you don't want brown-skinned illegal immigrants working in Alabama factories and picking Alabama farm crops, then why is it OK for them to – even casually, on a one-off basis – to mow your lawn or wash your clothes or cook your dinner. It was proof that – for a certain sector of the Alabama elite – not so much had changed since the darkest days of Jim Crow.
interesting. I still don't think that jim Crow laws is a good comparison. Comparing the plight of illegal immigrants is pretty demeaning to the civil rights movement. To be a citizen of a country and deemed unequal is one thing, but when you aren't a citizen, what rights do you expect to have? Now I know this response will get some backlash with people telling me what difference does a border make and blah blah blah...well the borders seem to piss those same people off when corporations move jobs outside them.
Interesting comparison though. I understand the idea behind it, I just think citizenship is a big component. It you aren't a legal citizen here, what can you expect? a job where you are paid cash that will give you a better life than you came from most of the time.
I think these laws should all be struck down if they are unconstitutional however, and the inconsistency here will probably leave it open for legal challenge.
We should just create a guest worker program and let anyone who wants to come in and work here legally, re-applying for their guest worker status every year to make sure they have gotten and are maintaining employment...shouldn't have to be a citizen to work here, but you should have to be legal. It makes much more sense than thinking it is possible to stop illegal immigration in the current set up with a simple fence and more border patrols...it is fighting a losing battle...but I guess we do that all the time on many different fronts so why not do it here...it is no different than the drug war...billions spent on no results and a stigma created in society...Great work.

as far as the law its how you look at it and what it is meant to accomplish its to get an American Workforce back in place
off welfare, off unemployment, off draining the state and the country,
get Americans back to work
to help those get placed into jobs that employers may not want to hire
like the recently released from incarceration.
Also the students... the young who really need summer jobs
or part time work to aid their schooling.

They can not be employed to pick veggies anymore that will go to the employable.
As far as domestic that is because it is not a business...
it is private people hiring within the home.
But as I understand there is a clause for that also ..
and as the law goes further on those who employ others in the home
on a regular basis may have do e verify also.
this law is opening jobs in every industry for the legal workers
the problem is once you pay someone to do nothing will they ever want to do something again?
Answer when the free funds run out they will have to.
We should just create a guest worker program and let anyone who wants to come in and work here legally, re-applying for their guest worker status every year to make sure they have gotten and are maintaining employment...shouldn't have to be a citizen to work here, but you should have to be legal
This is exactly what we have. Do you really think you have to be a citizen to work or study here legally? Maybe you were being sarcastic. I agree with 97% (I did a study) of your posts, so I'm going to make myself comfortable by assuming that.
has no one told godfather he spelled grateful wrong? ... every time i see the topic - i feel bad for him ...

Since you are doing his payroll... then, why don't you adjust his W-4 so he can get more from each paycheck (instead of having his employer withhold the excess)? You should try to make it so he breaks even, instead of getting a tax refund.
...
By the way... I make just over a six figure salary and paid about 16% income taxes last year. I am older, so I will probably get Social Security payments after I retire (and I do not have a problem paying my share if it helps the generations before me... including the ones who fought in WWII).

Also, have you thought about a tax deferred saving account for him? That reduces his gross income and drops him lower on the Tax Table.

I hear this all the time... but, I never hear about HOW to get it accomplished.
Like, what about the people who used to manufacture washing machines and televisions? Good paying jobs with health care benefits that used to be the backbone of American manufacturing? Where do propose they work? In onion fields... cleaning toilets in hotels for minimum wage (or less)?
If these jobs were covered by Americans under the protection of OSHA regulations (safe working environment, minimum pay, maximum work hours)... driving up operatin costs to the company. Would you complain about the cost of fruits and vegetables?

we will put others to work in your place you are draining our economy.
Even if it doesn't work it helps the moral of the working class who are drowning.
We can put those on unemployment back to work...
we can help find work for those recently released from prison or jail.
We can take back our country and try to make it work again.
errrr, exactly, it's about bad policy and stupidity.
I think you are missing the point. So I'll let it go.

or just stick to what you are good at, photoshopping Pearl Jam with Cats.
I hope it works.
Hamilton Police Beat and Bloody Wrong Man in Botched Drug Raid

A Canadian man is demanding an apology after his home was raided at gunpoint Thursday by police who thought the scent of a skunk living under his home meant he was growing marijuana.

It's not just an American thing. Doesn't excuse anything that happened here though. But we aren't the only ones with over zealous police.
Edit: I accidentally used the same link for the two different stories, fixed.
He doesn't waste money if thats what you mean and
he's super thrifty much better than me and goes to cheap places too.
thanks for all the great info..I will check your facts
but mostly pass it on to my children who feel like
they are getting crapped on like most Americans

(Don't forget to show up next week)."

interesting.
It is terrifying when you are too stupid to know who is dumb

he gets of course a lot of OT on average which pushes him into a much higher tax bracket
this what I base the % on
everyone is paying way too much in taxes ... thats pretty clear to the average American
especially since its still not enough for the government to make ends meet :?
and they want more :wtf:
Well I didn't say you couldn't have an opinion you are just not living it and feeling it
was what I said which is true .... imo.
as far as the law its how you look at it and what it is meant to accomplish
its to get an American Workforce back in place
off welfare, off unemployment, off draining the state and the country,
get Americans back to work
to help those get placed into jobs that employers may not want to hire
like the recently released from incarceration.
Also the students... the young who really need summer jobs
or part time work to aid their schooling.
These are Americans in need. Its time to take care of ourselves.
Answer when the free funds run out they will have to.
anyway if my spelling is the worst of my faults then I'd say things are pretty good on my end.
G.R.A.T.E.F.U.L......got it buddy,thank you.
Godfather.
I am older, so I will probably get Social Security payments after I retire (and I do not have a problem paying my share if it helps the generations before me... including the ones who fought in WWII).
..
Also, have you thought about a tax deferred saving account for him? That reduces his gross income and drops him lower on the Tax Table.
Hail, Hail!!!
Hail, Hail!!!
