So much for "no big government" from Bachmann

Bachmann wants to get rid of "big government", as she calls it today, but this might happen if either her or Rick Perry is elected. We would get big government from one of them if they were ever elected.

How much does it worry you if both Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry have ties to Dominionism?
FROM CNN's Jack Cafferty:

Forget about the separation of church and state... there's reason to believe that religion might have a whole new meaning for the next occupant of the White House.

The Daily Beast reports that two of the Republican candidates for president - Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry - are "deeply associated" with a theocratic strain of Christian fundamentalism that's called Dominionism.

For those of you who haven't heard of it before, and I was one who hadn't - stand by cause this is "out there."

The Daily Beast writes how Dominionists believe that Christians have a God-given right to rule all earthly institutions. Dominionism finds its roots in a small fringe sect called Christian Reconstructionism. People who advocate replacing U.S. law with the laws of the Old Testament, including the death penalty for homosexuality and abortion. swell.

The Daily Beast reports that both Bachmann and Perry appear to have ties to groups that support Dominionism.

Bachmann appeared in a documentary for one of these groups called "truth in action ministries." Also, she often praises or cites different religious leaders connected to such beliefs.

As for Perry, there's a group called "the new apostolic reformation" that sees him as their ticket to power. They talk about "taking dominion over American society" and hope that Perry can claim the so-called "mountain" of government. This group was also involved in Perry's prayer vigil in Houston a couple of weeks ago.

Critics suggest the Daily Beast's examples show so-called Dominionist groups attaching to the candidates.

And the website Newsbusters - which claims to expose liberal media bias - says that the Daily Beast "went a few more steps off the deep end" by publishing this piece.

We've reached out to both campaigns for a response but haven't heard anything back yet.

the moral majority reconstituted is nothing new for the GOP. I just hope the independants that lean right don't fall for it and pick based on the needs of the country in order. Economy being first, and controlling the personal lives of the people of the country dead fucking last.

  • im gonna move to Canada. They dont seem to have these problems (by that, I mean everything that this board argues about; not complaining though)

Plus, who would fuck with Canada? They dont do anything. They're just there. Chillin. Literally.

Being a mountee would be pretty cool, right? Plus PJ plays there, so it wouldnt be so bad. I'd still have the MLB, NBA, MLS, and professional football. I could get used to the accents, or try and pick up some French depending on the area. Doesnt sound that bad. They got some problems like everyone else, but hey, its Canada.

I could totally see myself living in Montreal. My mom's from Canada, so it wouldn't be too much a stretch to move there, and have been thinking about it a lot the past few years...

i think dominionism would only increase the government, or at least invite it into people's bedrooms. you can guarantee instead of helping create jobs, social issues such as abortion, gay marriage, and prayer in schools and abstinance only education would be pushed to the forefront again...

dominionism says that christians should rule the world. i think that would be a very divisive and very dangerous thing.

i like when christians do not act very christlike...

"No big government" is just something Republicans say when there is a Democrat in the White House. As soon as they're in the White House then it's just back to business as usual, which usually entails bigger government.

I remember reading a quote somewhere that went something like: "Those who are on the far right are against big government... except when they are not against big government." Can anyone out there tell me who said that and what the exact quote was? Thanks.

I got this from a Google search:

George Will!? Interesting. I don't remember this quote coming from someone on the right... which makes it all the more interesting.

forget canada ... we have a right wing federal gov't ... soon to be right wing provincial gov't and our current mayor in toronto is an idiot from the right ...

right now politically, about 35% of the population are right leaning and they all vote for the same parties/people ... everyone else splits their votes amongst a variety of centrist parties ... but none of them can win as long as the vote is split ...

we are only moving further and further to the right ...

Well, George can be pretty critical of Republicans and the Right when he wants to be. Particularly Bush, McCain, and Palin.
