Going to Washington D.C

Hi guys...

I'm going to Washington D.C. in (mid) October...
During week-days I think I'll be staying at Reston, VA. It's close to job.
I'd like to stay during the week-and at D.C. itself, close to downtown.

Any of you guys have some tips for the following stuffs:

- Nice independent (and not independent) record stores?
- Nice bar/gigs/pubs with cool live music?
- Any tip for a hotel in downtown?
- Any other general tip

P.S. I use Songkick (which I completely recommend!) for following up concerts (artists, gigs, etc), so far I only have Smashing Pumpkins playing there in October, but considering their new line-up… I’m not quite sure. If you guys have any gig/concert/festival suggestion… It’d be awesome

As for shows, I'd go to www.pollstar.com and type in Washington DC in the search. I know the 9:30 club has tons of good shows. Sorry, that's all I got

I agree with pollstar - easily my favorite music site - other than this one of course.

And I think Ben Harper is playing 2 nights at the 9:30 club at some point in October
