Whew, what a night

To start with, I am not a big DMB fan. I like their music enough, but since I live in Charlottesville, VA...home of the DAVE...I try to see them live whenever they play here. Their hometown shows are usually special. Last night I went to the Dave and Tim Reynolds sold out accoustic show at our 3500 seat outdoor Pavillion. It was a fundraiser, plus I never saw just the two of them live.
The show was real good, especially since Tim Reynolds was one bad ass guitarist. They played 3 and 1/2 hours and everyone stood most of the night. My highlight was when Warren Haynes, who was playing just down the Mall, joined them for 2 songs. Awesome. My only complaint, especially after seeing Ed solo at the Tower in Philly, is that the show lacked intimacy. Too many young idiots who talk and solialize through the show. It was as if the music was just background music for many. I know I get frustrated at an Ed show where people yell out between shows, but at least when Ed is playing almost everyone is quiet and listening to every note.
After the show we bolted a few blocks down our downtown mall cause we had tickets to the sold out Warren Haynes show at the Jefferson Theater (holds about 750). We missed the first song and had to sit 2nd row balcony (great seats) since we were fairly tired after standing for the entire Dave show. Warren was great. If you haven't listened to his new solo disc, it is great. Tight band. Sometime after 1, during one of the encores, Dave and Tim joined Warren and his band on stage for a bluesy All Along the Watchtower and The Weight. Place was pretty electric.
A pretty fun night. Although I was really tired when I got home afer 2, and standing pretty much since 730, I figure it was good training for my four PJ shows in Canada.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of
arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to
slide in sideways, BBQ sandwich in one hand, cold beer in the other,
body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "Woo Hoo what a
ride"!
