Does this look like Obama's policies?

It does not appear Obama supports what Marx advocated in 'The Communist Manifesto'. Discuss.
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V

    seriously though, thanks for posting this. it should probably be stickied. that way we will all use the proper terminology instead of just throwing out terms that we do not understand....

    It should be illegal on this board for anyone who hasn't read the Communist Manifesto to call someone a Marxist. Seriously, it's 100 pages, I read it in an afternoon for school. Do I come to the same conclusions as Marx? No. However, there are interesting points raised, and makes one think.

    Good points! Any time I read or hear someone refer to Obama as a Marxist, I laugh... until I realize they're serious. It should be obvious that Obama is not a Marxist, although I would assume and hope our president is at least familiar with Marx' work. The other thing I find odd is that many people actually believe Karl Marx is remembered today strictly for being some kind of evil villain or anti-hero. I don't see how that kind of thinking can be backed by even the most basic understanding of who Marx was.

    That's the thing, I don't know how an economic theory can be inherently evil. Those who put dictatorships in place to enforce a twisted form of Marxism certainly were (Stalin, etc..) but the theory itself, I don't know.

    Anyone who pretends to have an understanding of politics and economics should have a grasp on Marx (just as they should on Adam Smith, Milton Friedman, etc...).

    we should probably add definitions of other sorts of political theories and forms of government, socialism, communism, capitalism, monarchy, democracy, oligarchy, fascism, etc etc and stickie it to the top of the page. kind of a political theory 101 thread or something...

    i can guarantee a majority of people on here are at least confused, or actually do not know the difference.

    whenever anyone calls obama a marxist or socialist i laugh. i am actually embarrassed for them sometimes.

    a real socialist would be offended if you told him obama was a socialist...

    Excellent points! And not to assume you have more free time than any of the rest of us, but a brief fact sheet such as you suggest that defines the terms you listed would be very useful here on AMT!

    Thank you for this thread. Last fall semester, I took a class on Europe in the 20th century and we touched on Karl Marx, socialism, and communism but I really didn't get the full info on it like I wanted. We got the basic understanding of them.

    Looking forward to reading the link you provided.

    Read the manifesto if ya can, you should be able to pick it up at any bookstore, and is short.

    Yep. Senior year of high school in my history class we read an excerpt of it and my teacher was loving it (and he's read it before for other classes). I can easily pick it up at Barnes and Noble.

    Not only do the [name-calling removed. stop doing this please] who call Obama a Kenyan Marxist have no idea what the word 'Marxist' means, but I bet they'd also struggle to find Kenya on a map.

    Thanks man for posting that **(edit: thanks for starting a discussion on an interesting topic)**, I remember studying that in college and not quite grasping all of it. Maybe it will sink in better now.. after all, I'd like to know why Obama does the things he does. ;)

    oh, and did someone jump out of a plane today without their Parachute? I was looking forward to the firsthand knowledge...? hmmm... there's still time I guess.

    I knew what it was, but never felt any need to read the Manifesto. It piqued my interest. And it's not Obama taking your money, it's the entire system.

    I'll re-edit my post to say thanks for starting a thread and a discussion about how our President is accused of running the country because you are so very right, Google is so easy and none of us should be thanking him for that.

    From what i heard... Marxist, Fascist, Socialist, Communist, Aetheist, Jihadist are all interchangeable and arrive at the same result... badness. I actually heard someone tell me that all of those 'ist' words spelled the fall of America.
    I asked, "Does that also apply to Capitalist, Realist and Guitarist?"
    I was pretty much given the, "You know what I mean" rebuttal... which, was wrong, because I didn't know what he meant.
