Well, actually, we're not married but it's almost the same: in France, since 1999 you can choose between being "married" or "Pacsed".

I think they do it for mariages, as well.

Actually, I don't know why. France really is an administrative country: you need papers for everything.

Yeah! I think that, basically, the Jospin government passed this bill to help gay couples to have the same (or almost the same) advantages than heterosexuals (since church wouldn’t allow gay marriages).

But, since it would have been discriminatory if they had been the only beneficiaries, everybody was (and still is) allowed to choose it rather than marriage. Most of the people in their 20’s or 30’s, here, prefer that to marriage (easier if you split up).

i know we have the same here,cos church dont allowed it..and you renew this"contract"or its for ever?
