On my first listen through, I think it's fairly easy-listening funk music that RHCP have become so good at releasing. Weak lyrics, good mixing, nice pronounced bass lines as a generalization, and I like the sound of their new guitar. While it still resembles Frusciante's style, Josh Klinghoffer stands on his own with some nice riffs, and a better understanding (in my opinion) of the value of space, and how it can actually help accentuate the riffs he strategically places throughout. A better use of dynamics all around is present, and when they venture away from the standard 'RHCP formula', it's a nice treat. Pretty solid album. Immediately more likeable to me than Stadium Arcadium, though with a few cheesy tracks scattered throughout.

i wasn't expecting much to begin with anyways when the album was first announced. but then rain dance maggie came out and i liked it. but the rest.... not so much.
Saw them play 7 of the 14 songs on the album live last night at the Roxy. Seeing new songs live is really when it either makes it or breaks it for me. It definitely made it for me. Love the new material so much more after seeing it in such an incredible show last night. My early favorites off the record are "Factory of Faith" and "Look Around." Going to see them again tomorrow night. Hoping to hear some other new songs, especially "Brendan's Death Song."

I'm about half-way through the album and I'm digging what I'm hearing. Already much better than Stadium

Saw RHCP for the second time this week last night at Club Nokia in LA. Unfortunately, heard the same 7 new songs they played at the Roxy two nights prior. Still a big fan of "Factory of Faith" (Flea's bass on that song is rad) and "Look Around." Also really liking "Meet Me at the Corner." Fortunately though, I heard one of my all-time favorite RHCP songs, "Sir Psycho Sexy," live for the first time since '99. It just made my night!
I like it too but I don't think it's better then SA.....
I just got done listening to the album. It is different and I don't think it is like SA at all. I like a few songs right off the bat, but I like alot of chili peppers records they have to grow on me. Comparing SA and IWY is like comparing apples to oranges- they are different.
On first listen: I really liked
Factory of faith
Annie wants a Baby
Rain dance Maggie
Did I let you know
Happiness loves company
Police station
and meet me at the corner.
The Piano and african drums makes the record really interesting.
Only song I'd say would fit on SA from this album is Raindance.
On first listen I really liked 7, so hoping the album will grow on me. Had the same fear with SA, and it's great, problem is alot of songs on there would have made GREAT singles but weren't. "Dani California" was not really the best track to start off the radio singles to me. It did grow on me though, and don't mind it.
So, the RHCP albums just have to grow on me, their non radio singles are alot of the times the best on their albums. That Bass Line in "factory" is bad ass!
