"Just when you're thinking the Army may have turned the corner on its troops' killing themselves, a new number has surfaced that dashes those hopes. On Friday, the Army said it suffered a record 32 suspected suicides in July, the most since it began releasing monthly data two years ago."

Some of the reader comments are especially interesting. I have a friend who was in the Navy and got arrested and into a lot of trouble for trying to get out/went AWOL I think. His mother passed away and they wouldnt give him enough time off to tend to funeral services apparently. I hear this from a lot of people in the military --thats its the stress of being STUCK. Maybe they deserve more $$ too. What do you think?
Pick up my debut novel here on amazon: Jonny Bails Floatin (in paperback) (also available on Kindle for $2.99)

i think for the most part ... the troops are treated like pawns in a chess game ... yes, they can do great things but they are mostly sacrificial ... the whole concept of war is about profiteering so - giving fair wages or bereavement leave is not something conducive to that ...

patriotism and nationalistic taboos allow the gov't to continue to use and abuse these people day in day out ...
