Hey Everyone....

So I have a cheap Turntable....it works good though. It's an Ion Profile.... So recently I bought new needles for it cause it was making some not so normal static noise in the background that can be a little annoying when the music gets quiet. So I listen to a few vinyls and it sounded great and now it's doing it again and I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong. Any help would be appreciated...thanks! :(

Have you checked the needle for lint or fuzz?.. You'd be surprised what you can pick up off of a record that looks clean... If there is any build up on the needle be very careful when you remove it, you don't want to damage it.

    Here are some links:

    Weight
    Anti-skating
    Protractor

I don't know if you problem comes from one of these settings, but, who knows... ;)

Oh! And Yeah! Remove dust from your vinyls everytime you use them AND before putting them back in their sleeve.

Hey Rico - are you still getting this problem?

here are some of the things that can cause noise on my turntable:

    - normal wear and tear on the record (pops and clicks etc - records do pick up noise over time, also they tend to attract debris, so if it is only happening with certain records and not others, then it could be the record itself - do you have a carbon fibre brush to clean them before each play? these reduce static)

    - the phono 'earth' cable not being attached fully to the amplifier at the back - this can cause a low buzzing. This wire is the stray wire from the turntable with a bit of metal on the end - it has to go to the phono earth at the back of the amp and make good contact. I don't know if modern turntables and amps still do this - but all my turntables have had this.

    - the phono to amp leads (the red and white one etc) not being fully pressed into the plugs on the amp - this can cause noise as well

-the stylus (needle) not being pushed fully into the cartridge (the bit it comes away from) - if this is not tight, again it can cause some noise.

Other than that I'm not sure - if you try these and are still having trouble let me know, and we'll see if we can figure out what's going on.

Cool Rico - let us know how you get on. I usually find that these things can be sorted through a process of elimination
