I'll be disappointed if it's not aired on their SiriusXM channel. It's the perfect event for that channel to air live and SiriusXM has aired plenty of live festivals before (Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and Farm Aid come to mind). I can't think of a good reaso to not do it, but I don't think they've officially said one way or the other if they're doing it.

Tim discussed this in the AET show yesterday, so far there will not be any recording/broadcast of PJ20.

IF it happens, he will let us all know. Keep your fingers crossed.

Hope Tim can talk to the Phish guys about how they do their live streams - $25 for a high-quality webcast for their two-day run at Lake Tahoe was their most recent offering, and they do something like that two or three times a tour it seems, and I've heard nothing but good things about them.

...and by "broadcast" are we thinking he meant live streams as well?

I find it hard to believe they will not be at least recording it?? Audio and visual. Why does everything have to be so cloak and dagger with shit like this?

    $$$$

That answer does not make sense. Recording and broadcasting would lead to more $$$$, not less.

$$$ to have cameras, recording, broadcast etc... + all the $$$ they lose when someone records it from the stream and its distributed the next day online, negating future DVDs/Official Boots.

Its labor day weekend. Not as many people as you think will pay for a stream of this show on a Holiday weekend. Therefore $$$, makes sense to me!
EDIT: Them not recording it is bullshit. Of course they're recording it, they record everything! But I see them not broadcasting it live.

I don't think there will be any live stream of the show at all, audio or video. They never seemed like it was a big priority and if they haven't announced anything by now I don't see anything being announced in the next 3 weeks.

OK, I see what you are saying. But if Tim really said they aren't even recording the shows that makes no sense to me. No recording = no official boots/DVD = less revenue.

He's being coy, they're definitely recording it. They'll definitely have a boot and/or DVD later. Don't worry it'll be out there! I think he's saying this so that every last seat is bought. Makes sense business-wise.

I think not broadcasting is a missed opportunity. It doesn't hurt Lolla or Jazzfest, it won't hurt PJ20. And the holiday weekend is only here in the US. Think about how many fans internationally would be interested in a broadcast.

If there truly is no webcast coming that is a shame.

  • Who knows? I think you're right they should broadcast it, but as someone pointed out before me, everything is cloak and dagger shit around here! Ha ha! Anyway once its (hopefully) sold out you may see an announcement about a broadcast or something. I hope so at least. A lot of people just can't make it to the big celebration.

Lolla has sponsors for it's webcast, so they make a bunch of dough.

I don't think a webcast would really deter that many people from attending.

Venues also charge a fee to broadcast or shoot video for commercial release, even if the band pays all of the costs.

Exactly! I want everyone who wants to be there be there. Whether in person or via the web.
