People robbing, stealing, killing , lying, cheating....

Are humans sick?

There doesn't seem to be a lot of good news in the world lately.

I really don't get it.. and to top it off, it amazes me how often my girlfriend gets sexually harrassed/threatened/mugged. Just the weirdest stories, I don't trust anyone anymore. I don't know where these people are coming from.

I'm not the type of person who believes in good and evil, but you almost have to to make sense of this world.

A look through the history books shows that, sadly, nothing much has changed. It seems to be a reflection of who we are when we actually take a long look in the mirror. Do have a look through some crime statistics of recent times though. The ever-present media and spread of information these days do tend to cause us to be hyper aware of things which may be quite distant and "irrelevant" to our own lives, but which we perceive as nearby threats. The crime stats, while not cheery, do offer a bit of a reality check to the perception we nearly all have.

If anything, things are safer because of the greater awareness of the issues.

Our governments and media are the main reasons for all the 'sickness' in this world. The World is mostly run by selfish greed-heads with no imagination.

As for the media, I remember growing up and seeing lot's of arty programs, and cool music programs - 'The Tube' - on t.v, whereas now the t.v is just pure trash.

    I haven't watched t.v now in 4 years.

People need an outlet of some sort - an interest to get their teeth into. You can even call it a distraction. But when people are presented with nothing but trash through their formative years, then they turn their energies to less creative pursuits like drugs and violence.

Though of course there's more to it all than just this.

Just yesterday here in San Diego a 23 year old with little criminal history shot a man in the face with a shotgun then went on to shoot a police officer in the face while at a stop light.....All because he was going to commit suicide anyway (He left a note).

Further proof that humans are sick.......

    RIP

The violent crime rate has been steadily decreasing for years, so is that proof that humans are less sick?

Studies have shown that animals crowded together express more violent and anti-social behavior that those not as confined. I've often suspected that is a major factor in humans agressive behavior.

Looking at the history of violent and cruel behavior in humans, it's tempting to believe humans are sick. But peace is possible. Japan once had a long period of peace and overall relative contentment. Many American Indian tibes in the pre-continental conquest era lived very peaceably. In most tribes, even when they did fight there was little killing- mostly just counting coup. So I think it is possible for humans to live in peace-- but generally, we seem to be going about that in all the wrong ways.

If you haven't watched TV in 4 years how do you know it's trash?

I agree with your premise though, that there is a lot of trash on TV. Some I enjoy for mindless relaxation, but would never want my daughter watching it until she knew better. But there is also some good stuff on TV as well.

I would say this is an isolated thing if it didn't happen everyday. The senseless violence that it.

To the person who said crime was down....You mean they have found slick was of recording it. Crime is the same as always. It's just moved to the suburbs. Large cities have begun revitalization projects to downtown areas because it brings in business. The crime has been priced out to the suburbs where the crime is reported less and spread out.
