i have a few-ish pj related tattoos (most people would never recognize them as such) but my best advice would be to THINK it through...and take the time to really think it through. what about pj is significant to you? is it a lyric? is it an idea? take your time, and choose your artist carefully. if it's an interpretation of a song or something don't just go to anyone. however if its the 3 hearts from smile (which is not all that rare, i have them on my wrist) then just bring exactly what you want and ask them to trace it. regardless, i would research your artist. what is your favorite song? what is your favorite lyric? the possibilities are endless.keep on rockin' in the free world.0

All depends on what designs you have in mind. Do you plan to get the tat on tour or local to you? In tattooing you really get what you pay for. Good artists can be expensive but its worth it. Pay for a cheap tat and you will have a bad tat. Costs me £70 an hour for my tattoos.2000: Manchester

Also get something you want, don't get a tattoo for the sake of getting a tattoo.2000: Manchester

i realize i said "think it through" and "research your artist" about a million times...and now that i reread it...i agree. just never forget that a tattoo is PERMANENT, save a very expensive, very painful tattoo removal appointment.
i can't say it enough...think it through, research your artist!keep on rockin' in the free world.0 -

Don't do it. Think of what it will look like at PJ40.Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.0

i've been dying to get my pearl jam tattoo - i've had ideas and went to the tattoo parlor to speak to the artist - that's the best advice - at least have an idea in mind and go speak to the artist - if you don't think they can interpret what you want - go elsewhere. for me, this is going to be very personal since i'm looking to incorporate my love of the band's music and my brother who passed in 2008 who was also a pearl jam lover. just think it through and be comfortable with the artist.0

My advice...if you don't know exactly what you want and have to ask a messageboard...don't get the tattoo yet.
Wait until you know exactly what you want.hippiemom = goodness0 -

I do agree with this. I think asking for ideas on designs sort of indicates to me that the OP doesn't know what they want but likes the idea of a tattoo. I could be wrong.MD97728 wrote:i've been dying to get my pearl jam tattoo - i've had ideas and went to the tattoo parlor to speak to the artist - that's the best advice - at least have an idea in mind and go speak to the artist - if you don't think they can interpret what you want - go elsewhere. for me, this is going to be very personal since i'm looking to incorporate my love of the band's music and my brother who passed in 2008 who was also a pearl jam lover. just think it through and be comfortable with the artist.
I have 19 tattoos myself and went to get my 2nd PJ tat last weekend. I wanted the cover of Riot Act done - the skeletons with the dust and smoke. When my tattooist originally looked at it last month he thought he could do it but then when he came to draw it up, he struggled with it. I was gutted because I was really looking forward to it but at the same time I don't want a shit tat. These things are for life. You should always trust your tattooist - they are the experts and know what makes a good tat and what won't. I told my tattooist this, I said if he was comfortable doing the tat I would have got it done but he wasn't. So its back to the drawing board for a PJ tat.2000: Manchester

My suggestion is to not be the 2,000,000 person to get a stickman tattoo. Other than that pick a part of your favorite song and have the artist draw it up.Member 164xxx

This is good advice. Asking the message board is OK when you are gathering ideas but definitely be sure you thoroughly think through your choice before getting any work done.___________________________________________

I have two trains of thought.
1. Pick something that you absolutely love. My first was the stickman even though it is so common amongst fans. I think it says a lot and I love it.
2. Put a lot of thought into it and if your not sold on the idea totally then wait. My 10C icon is the one I got in 2009 and I put a lot of thought into it.
The cool thing about PJ is that they give you a lot of ideas
Good Luck.0 -

I would go with lyrics. What song speaks to you the most?___________________________________________
