an 18 year old woman has a bomb strapped to her in Sydney

into it's 4th hour....How terrible...
Police and emergency services have rushed to the exclusive Sydney suburb of Mosman, after being called to a home by a woman claiming there was a "suspicious device".

The 18-year-old reportedly has a bomb fastened around her neck, with a threatening note attached to it. There are serious concerns for the teenager's welfare, as police try to defuse the device.

nitial radio reports claimed the woman was wired to the device and threatening to detonate it. It now appears she may be the victim of an extortion attempt, in an area well known for its multi-million dollar properties.

The teenage girl was able to communicate with police that an unknown man attached the device to her neck, 7News reports.

Her father is a successful Sydney businessman and the girl had celebrated her 18th birthday just a few weeks ago.

Police and the NSW bomb squad arrived at the scene just before 3pm and are working with the woman, according to reports.

Streets surrounding Burrawong Ave have been cordoned off, as ambulance and rescue services arrive.

Some homes have been evacuated and police are urging people to stay away from the area.
Police would not elaborate on details, due to the "delicate operation" which was in progress. They have not confirmed or denied reports that a distressed woman had threatened to detonate an explosive.

    Her Dad is some big business man, and a very wealthy area full of multi-million dollar houses...

    Terrible, must be so frightening.. Can't get the Danny Glover with the toilet bomb in lethal weapon out of my mind because of this...

    So Ive read a few news stories about this and I have the theory that she doesn't get enough attention from her daddy/parents so she has strapped this thing on for attention or....

    Daddy cut off her allowance when he busted her doing something wrong so her and her boyfriend cooked this up to get some money off daddy.

    It just seems too odd and strange.

    it really doesn't matter why or how...
    if by her hand or extortion...
    my heart goes out to her parents, when something happens to your child you can't control,
    it just breaks a parent ... you can literally go crazy.

    Maybe this is all promo for the new Jesse Eisenberg, Kenny Powers movie "30 minutes or less" which seems to be inspired by the pizza delivery guy with the bomb strapped to him a few years back

    Can't believe they made a comedy from that, the dude died.

    probably not too many more scary experiences one could have....

    The first police lady on the scene stayed with her until the bomb squad arrived.. Took like 2 hours... imagine that, putting your life at risk, no protection in order to make someone else as comfortable and as calm as possible. Police do an amazing job....
