Music Albums: Best of 2011 (so far)

These are the albums I have purchased this year (I may be forgetting one or two):

1. REM - Collapse Into Now ~ Best REM album since "Accelerate". That is a joke. I know "Accelerate" was their last album. I love them both.

2. Eddie Vedder - Uke Songs ~ I really like this album. Admittedly, it is because Ed is the vocalist. I am not ashamed.

3. Manchester Orchestra - Simple Math ~ Fucking good album.

4. Tapes & Tapes - Outside ~ I really dig this album and the band is very cool. This record far exceeds their last effort. Also, (fun fact) I am friends with the keyboardist.

5. Foo Fighters - Wasting Light ~ Far better then I had expected and better then I had hoped for.

6. Weezer - Death to False Metal ~ Best Weezer album since "Pinkerton". Probably because it is a compilation album and several of the songs are from Weezer's early years.

7. Cake - Showroom of Compassion ~ Not Cake's best work, but still a fun album. Just wish that after seven years in the making this album would have a little more to offer.

8. Crash Test Dummies - Oooh La La ~ Decent album after a long wait. Nothing close to as good as 2004s masterpiece "Songs of the Unforgiven".

9. Death Cab for Cutie - Codes and Keys ~ Not overly impressed, but a decent listen.

10. Bon Iver - Bon Iver ~ To be fair, I have only given this album two listens. I may not be able to handle all of the falsetto.

11. Radio Head - King of Limbs ~ I just don't get it anymore. I used to LOVE Radio Head. "Kid A", "Amnesiac" and "OK Computer" are such brilliant albums. I just can't understand what they are doing anymore. I wish I did understand, because I still believe they are complete geniuses, but I am lost with this new batch of songs.

12. Owl City - All Things Bright and Beautiful ~ Terrible. What the fuck was I thinking?

Hey I totally agree with both your calls on bon ivor (too much falsetto) and Death Cab For Cutie was such a let down. Horrible in fact.

I was also really let down by....
Bright Eyes- Peoples Key (didnt get it at all really...)

The Strokes - Angles ( i thought under cover of darkness was one of the best singles theyve ever released but the rest of the album is absolutely horrible. Even they have said they dont like it....)

On the plus side....i really enjoyed....

Noah and The Whale - Last Night on Earth

Roddy Woomble - The Impossible Song & Other Songs

Maskedman - The Allusion Of Grandeur

All in all though a really poor start to the album releases for 2011....

Does the "new" Screaming Trees album qualify? Recorded in 1999 but released this week. If so, it's in my top spot.

I actually really like the new Bright Eyes (Took a while to grow on me, but now really enjoy it). Like the new MMJ, BOH infinite Arms (was the 2010?) , FF is wonderful. Also like Decemberists, King is Dead

I guess it did. November. I was going off memory and thought it was Jan/Feb this year. Still their best release in forever.

It is CTD's Masterpiece for sure. It is a darker and more cohesive work then most of their stuff. I love it. Check this track out:

The Horrors new album is really good. I actually never heard of them until a month or so ago and never heard any of their previous music. But its still really friggin good. Also these sort of in order.

    Com Truise-Galactic Melt
    The Antlers-Burst Apart
    Friendly Fires-Pala
    My Morning Jacket-Circuital
    Arctic Monkeys-Suck it and See

Incubus' new one is still a steaming pile of dog shit as far as im concerned.

The Head And The Heart - The Head And The Heart (was issued again this year, with the addition of 'Rivers and Roads, so it counts for me)
    The Kills - Blood Pressures
    Foo Fighters - Wasting Light
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V

When are people going to start showing some love for the Tres Mts album? This is a Pearl Jam forum, right? 8-) Seriously though, I cannot get enough of that album. Granted, I've been a fan of King's X for as long as I have been a fan of Pearl Jam, so to hear Doug sing and play with Mike and Jeff was something I could immediately appreciate. However, I didn't expect to want to listen to this one as often as I do. I love to start with track 5, and let the CD automatically go back to track 1 and then end with track 4. This album has got everything. It's got Doug's passionate untamed vocals. It's got Mike fucking McCready ripping it up. It goes from gritty to pretty with ease. It's got a cool vibe throughout. The two bonus tracks rock too. I can't be fucked to remember the drummer's name, but I'm loving those drum tracks. Richard something? Fuck.

I'm listening to King's X's Out of the Silent Planet right now and it beats the fuck out of all these fucking spoiled bed-wetting shits under the age of 30 who think their whining is music. It beats them fuckless. It's like an elephant stepping on an ant hill. It doesn't give a fuck about them. Neither do I.

    I do like Fleet Foxes.

Glad you liked it. At least someone did. I was not impressed.
