Short but sweet! I enjoyed it, and I thought it was great summertime music to chill to... At least it was somewhat of a comeback from Uplifter. Anyone else give it a listen? Thoughts?

  • Just picked this up, their past few albums have been pretty terrible imo.

But i have always been a fan so I have to give it a shot, this was the first time in about 5 years I skipped seeing them live

I agree. I was always a huge fan of 311, never missed a show or a new album and come summertime it was always my go-to music. But the last album that I bought the day it came out was Evolver and since then I kind of fell off. I have all their music, but I find myself listening mostly to the old stuff and I skipped them when they came to town this year. I've only listened to Universal Pulse once and it's kinda meh. Just seems like the same record keeps getting made IMO.

  • They definitely don't put out anything even close to the vibes they put out in the 90's... which I can safely say about a lot of bands nowadays. I always go back to Transistor, because it seems like the album is an adventure in itself, and the past few 311 albums have been a little bland, but Universal Pulse wasn't half bad compared to Uplifter IMO. I'm very glad that 311 still makes great live performances... I just wish I grew up in the 90's.

I think it's decent; I actually thought Uplifter was pretty strong. I would say this is a little bit better than Don't Tread on Me. For me, From Chaos, Soundsystem, and Transistor are top of the list. From what I read, they were very much in control for this album, releasing it on their own label, Chad mixing it, and putting out an "EP" over a full length. For them it was quality, not quantity. I used to do production with them on tour in '03, and got to know them pretty well and have seen them every time they roll through Columbus. They are genuine guys who are going to do what they want musically; sure the music is changing but it's the way they want it to. I gotta respect that. Plus, their live shows NEVER are a let down. They bring it just as hard ans any other bands do.

Well said, thanks. Very cool you got to work with them! I got to see them in Milwaukee this summer, and it was awesome... very upbeat, and it definitely wasn't disappointing. I'm very glad they stuck together and are still jamming.
