So i got to thinking. When the day arrives as it undoubtedly will, that Pearl Jam cease to be, how will we carry on its legacy?

A morbid thought? Not so sure. I mean i already have my eldest daughter a fan so i can perpetuate the ideal that way. Maybe like The Doors for example, many new fans long after they are gone. But we as members of this expansive and at times downright amazing community, we hold the primary source. We are here in the now. Getting albums as new release; meeting them in person and being at shows.

35 years from now we will have the right to contribute our first hand experiences to their history.

On reflection, something was started by 5 guys 21 years ago but now has taken off to another level of existence. It will never die. Who knows how long we have with albums other releases and tours. But it wont be the end.

I sit here with a glass of italian dessert wine and i raise a toast to us all + 5

Peace.

  • If PJ lasts as long as Bruce ... we'll be having this conversation 25 years from now.

Pearl Jam, Bruce, The Beatles, Rolling Stones all have vast catalogs filled with rich music.

This is why they will be remembered in 200 years and then 500 years.

It is why (I'm sorry Nirvana fan) no one will remember them at all 500 years from now.

It isn't about how HOT you burned for 2 years. It is about the heat you brought for 30+.

In fairness, I can barely stand the Beatles or Stones. Bruce is a major talent, but never got me excited. In saying that I have a massive respect for all and the power they had on society.

    Edit: Billy Joel into discussion.
