the tea party has destroyed any discourse that was left in this country. boehner wanted to compromise but cantor and the tea party would not let him. they are dragging the gop further to the right. you know things are bad when mccain rips on people in his own party. he has not done that since his mavericky days circa 2000-2002. the tea party is going to single handedly sink the gop.

if you think things are bad now, imagine how bad it would be in 6-12 months, in the middle of campaign season for the 2012 elections cycle had the gop plan passed and we would be facing the exact same situation then. the dems want a long term solution and have put they big 3, medicare, medicaid, and social security, the stalwarts of democratic politics, on the table, and the gop has given up NOTHING. the gop wants a short term fix so they can grind the government to a halt again right in the middle of campaign season to make the dems look bad. i think more and more people are discovering that the gop is not interested in fixing anything, they are only interested in playing political games. when the gop had the house and senate they got every damn thing they wanted, and now they are trying to control things as the minority party. hats off to reid for not being pushed around in this fight.

the people have spoken and they want compromise. wait until the elderly do not receive their SS checks next week. there is going to be HELL to pay then, as the gop will have alienated their base and left them hanging high and dry. they are fucking with people's lives and their livelihood.

i am going to laugh my ass off when the gop are rewarded for it by losing the house again, and coming nowhere close to winning the white house and the senate in the 2012....

What I want to know is how is Boehner pronounced Bay-ner? I think it's really pronounced Boner and he changed it for political purposes.

    A. John McCain is an idiot. Who cares what he thinks about anything.

    B. Someone answer this. If debt is the problem, how is more debt the solution?

    A. i guess my point was missed, regardless of what you think he is, there is tremendous infighting in the gop currently due to baggers taking the caucus hostage. 25% leading the way, go democracy!!!

    B. who said debt was/is the only problem? you fine w/current tax code? 51% of us don't pay jack in fed tax, large corps paying >5% effective tax rate.

The only bright side to all of this is if the tea party get their way, the seniors will see to it Republicans never get voted into office again for a very long time.

    A. The GOP needed a wake up call. Business as usual was the reason why we are where we are today. I seriously could not care less if John McCain got hit by a bus, he is the reason the TEA Party exists.

    B. 51% of individuals currently don't pay jack in Fed tax? I'm assuming you mean income tax? Well, it should be 100% not paying federal tax. You're right it isn't a debt problem, it is a spending problem.

And as far as your quote from the 1st term guy, he is right. Dealing politics is why this country is in dismal financial shape.

Don't you think it is funny that they claim to take in more every year in social security than they pay out, they supposedly have trillions in the trust fund, and yet they "can't" pay the bills without borrowing?

The ironic thing, I just read a post from you last night spouting off that this was no longer a time for compromise. So which is it?

See, this is the problem, people don't want to compromise on their own agenda but bitch about the other guy.

Sorry i don't know how to just quote 1 part. i agree with you on most parts but 1. i think alot of blame must be placed on the people. If you want compromise than you don't vote in a group that basically says that everything the government is doing now is wrong and we will make sure everything goes back to normal. by voting for the tea party people many Americans have shown that they are either really dumb or in fact don't want compromise.

i am sorry, but the tea baggers' idea of compromise is even considering hearing reid's plan. eric cantor said the teabaggers "have sacrificed enough just by coming to the table"....

and we did compromise my agenda. we did not raise revenues and we put the big 3 on the chopping block. what of your agenda was sacrificed?

I think it demonstrated a large group was fearful and therefore easily manipulated. Fear was trumping even basic facts last Fall, e.g. people thinking they were paying more in taxes since Obama took office. I guess the old lady with the "get the government out of my Medicare" sign should be happy now.

You are missing the point. In one thread you say it's not time for compromise, stand your ground. And then in another thread you bash people for standing their ground and not compromising.
