Bucketlist Concert
1st: I LEFT THANKING MY LUCKY STARS I AM A PEARL JAM FAN
2nd: The stage was huge. Heniz Field is not huge, however the stage dwarfed the stadium and was very busy.
3rd: Bono and "The" Edge were running around on the stage and at times it was hard to find them. When you have thrown back a couple beers its hard to find two little Irishmen running around a stage that took up 50 yds.
4th: Isn't the Edge like 50+ I think at that age you can go by Jim or Bob etc...
5th: I read the setlist from the previous show. This was only different by a couple of songs. So they really do not mix up and play to their audience, venue location etc...
6th: I pd 50 for two tickets so I am really not complaining just sharing, how lucky we are. We see a rock group at a rock concert. Not a Rock group preforming in a Gaga type setting.

  • You can't mix up the setlist with the staging they have. A PJ show and a U2 show are two different things, you are comparing apples and oranges. And you can like both apples and oranges.

Truly they are and yes you can.
I just like the intimacy PJ gives allowing each fan to own a piece of the show and its venue.
If we had to buy Fan Club Red Zone Tix to U2 we would be looking at 250 a piece plus our face was 95 and they were in the upperdeck.
    Crazy
Some folks here are complaining about 80-90 for 10c seats.

U2 has long been on my concert bucket list as well but I've waited too long. If I could see the 80's version of U2 I'd be there in a heartbeat. The current version really just does not hold any appeal anymore.

Pearl Jam and U2 are on 2 different planets when it comes to popularity. If Pearl Jam's tickets were that expensive they would be back to playing clubs to sell out.

I agree on the concert tickets. Pearl jam/ Ed (solo) do still give us great seats for a low price. I think the pair of tix was 162/ so 81 a piece, and got row 15 dead center on the floor for EV! I U2 ticket is probably 250-300 for that seat. Also, same with fan club membership, (even with the upgrade). People really do need to realize that compared to some artists, we as Pearl jam fans have it pretty good in the fanclub and fans world.

They never change their set lists.

Also, they've done stadium shows before Lady Gaga picked up an instrument. They changed the way shows are after Zoo TV.

Floor seats, which would have given you the option of trying to be in the first 15 rows, were roughly $70 each plus applicable fees

U2 is awe but their live shows...hit or miss...i seen them just a few years ago here in omaha and it was the saddest thing i had ever witnessed...concert tix were very costly, sold out in like 5 min...in February for a December show..11 months...wow...but the kicker was that the majority of the crowd was Suit and tie guys with their wifes in fancy formal dresses walking around drinking martini's not paying any atten to the stage...i swear 80% of the crowd was 50+ year olds whom couldnt wait to get to the office the next day and tell everyone where they were the night before!!! I'm not bashing the elderly by no means but it seam they were the only ones whom could afford tix...i was bout 36 at the time of the show and really didnt see anyone there period that was in my age group...it was really really sad...(beside the 1st few rows)to see everyone just visiting and not even paying atten to the stage....dude was right bout them back in the day...i'd give anything to go back in time and seen them with my ol lady whom was at their show in Ames, Iowa back in like 1993..

I saw the Zoo TV show at Dodger Stadium on Halloween in 1992 (?), and it was a great show because of the staging, and the opening bands - Public Enemy and the Sugarcubes.

Ever since then, I have grown tired of their schtick...they seem to rely on the same core of songs year after year.

It seems as if they are now just the house band for some gigantic stage that is the real focus of the show.

I think it was either Bono or Adam who said they might not do stadiums for a while.

I've wondered, how many bands open up the whole stadium for the audience instead of closing off a section? This was the first tour I've seen a band/artist do that.

very well put. I love both bands for different reasons, and the two very different experiences they give.

The other night at the Pittsburgh show, we were able to speak with a gentleman named Phil, who is Bono's guitar tech. He told us that they will definitely do at least one more tour and it will most likely be indoor arenas.

The whole concept behind the 360 stage was to attempt to make the show intimate for everyone by making the whole stage set so massive that it would dwarf the stadium. Also by lifting all the stage equipment, speakers and video, up in the air to improve the sight lines. The stage was put more in the middle of the stadium so that even the farthest seats would be closer. The wrap-around video screen also helped by having close ups of the band, plus a lot of the visual effects. Having seen the show 5 times, my opinion is that they achieved what they set out to do. One show that I saw them on the Vertigo tour was from the back of an arena and it seemed much farther away.

About the ticket prices - Their philosophy is to have a mix of expensive and cheap tickets, there are fans that will pay a lot for the best seats and there are fans that don't want to pay a lot, but can still go. The most expensive tickets are for the best seats, the sections to the sides of the stage, they go for about $250, then maybe $100 for other seats, $30 for nose-bleed sections, and $55 for field. I would guess the average price worked out to be about $100.

I did not go (and live w/i walking distance of TCF Bank Stadium), but from what I hear, the non-changing setlist is because they rehearse essentially the same show and then they don't miss a note. Pearl Jam, on the other hand, plays like 80 songs a tour (105 according to Ed in Boston 2003), and therefore, has some flubs. So I totally agree with the "two different experiences". Honestly, if I was a casual fan, going only to one show per tour and maybe 3 in my life, I'd prefer U2's way...Any lyrical flubs would bother me. But as a hard core Pearl Jam fan that's seen 'em 13 times (including all three 03 Bostons), I love that they mix it up and the mistakes are kinda fun.

I am biased. I don't care for U2, nor for productions of this magnitude, but from what I hear, they can play and the people seem pretty happy with the shows...

I saw U2 at the old Giants Stadium in '09. Had the cheaper seats - 5 rows from the top of the stadium so the price was right. Was very disappointed that I had looked at the setlists from previous shows before seeing them. The sound was good but I couldn't get over the fact that a band of their longevity would go out and play an essentially coreographed show every night - shocking. I like U2's music but will likely never see them again live unless the price is right and the tickets are offered to me.

Well @ least I have need urgent need to see U2 since I saw Unforgettable Fire, Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby (Twice) and Zoo TV Tours, that's pretty much it for me, I wanted to go see them in Houston a couple of years ago but the plans feel through, so even if I never see them again I am satisfied.

I just think it's funny how everyone comes on here after they go to a non Pearl Jam show and comment on how it wasn't as good as Pearl Jam, it's like comparing apples to cannon balls!

There is a VERY small amount of bands in the world that go on tour and don't play basically the same show every night, the handful that I can think of are Pearl Jam, Phish, Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, The Dead, WSP, String Cheese maybe a few more. But big iconic bands like U2, usually play the same set and the Rolling Stones just started playing different sets in the late 1990's, before that is was the same set night after night, but that is very common.
