Ryan Adams - Acoustic?

My cousin sent me this video last night. I've heard of Ryan Adams, but have never taken the time to listen to any of his stuff. Does he have any albums that have that acoustic/laid-back feel to them like this song?

If you like Uncle Tupelo at all, check out Whiskeytown. It was Adams' pre-solo career band.

I was like you for awhile, I heard of him but never listened.

The song, "New York, New York" from "Gold" made me buy that album. Since then I now have "Cardinology", "Easy Tiger", and "Cold Roses". They are all great with "Gold" and "Easy Tiger" being my favorites.

To answer your question: I think "Easy Tiger" would be the one to start with. It's pretty laid back and also accessible, not that any of his stuff that I have heard is that hard to get into.

Thanks for the video, that's a great version of that song.

The good thing if you like him, is he has a million albums so there is a lot out there.

I think if you want that acoustic feel, Easy Tiger isn't the best starting place. I think going with Heartbreaker is the best place to start. Then Gold and Cold Roses. If you can find it, nothing bests his Suicide Handbook. It's all acoustic and amazing.
It's pretty easy to find online.

Yeah -- never officially released. Label deemed it too depressing. You ought to be able to find it without too much trouble.

You will end up buying everything, but I'd start with Heartbreaker.

Suicide Handbook is the name of it, yeah. It was recorded before Gold and actually has several tracks from Demolition.
Amazing album. Another good mellow one is a bootleg is 48 Hours. That's good and mellow.
I believe Ryan has endorsed these bootlegs so I think a simple Google search will bring these up.
Start with Heartbreaker though. Easy Tiger is good for sure, but Heartbreaker and Whiskeytown's Strangers Almanac are great intro albums for Ryan.

    Agreed.

it's far from what you're looking for, OP, but keep in mind that Love Is Hell is an excellent Ryan Adams album that should not be overlooked.

It truly is. I remember not being familiar with Ryan at all – I guess the album had not been out long or the second one may have been and I was unfamiliar besides name recognition with Whiskeytown – and then I saw him and Elton John together on CMT's Crossroads show. When I heard Sweet Carolina I was sold, ordered the album the next day.

That CMT Crossroads performance is phenomenal... I've had a copy on my computer for years. Ryan Adams also does an incredible version of Down in a Hole by Alice in Chains for those interested... Here's a link from a Kingston, NY show (the version I listen to most) http://beemp3.com/download.php?file=729 ... +In+A+Hole

By the way - he'll be playing in Seattle in October as part of a festival there! In addition, he has a new 'country rock-ish' album coming out in the Fall called Ashes and Fire :)

Totally off-topic, but ledvedderman, you've been using that avatar for quite some time now, yes?

I'm just wondering how old the kid in the photo is now.

(Of course, I might be thinking of someone else and that's acutually a recent photo.)

Yeah, I've been using it for quite some time. One of my favorite photos of my son. I think he was about 4-5 months old at that point and now he's over 2 1/2.

Still a Pearl Jam fan though. He loves to sing Better Man and Tonight, You Belong to Me

Yeah, very cool. I've tried to get my kids to listen to PJ, but they aren't really down with it. They actually met EV, so I thought that might spark some interest, but no...

The two oldest were briefly "into" Wilco. And the 5-year-old likes some Arcade Fire stuff. So that's something, I guess.

The 7-year-old might be coming around. He no longer asks me to turn off PJ Radio when I'm driving him around.
