Any thoughts on this song? I absolutely LOVE IT! I love the chords and I love Ed's singing on this one. The 'uh oh oh ohhhh oh!' part kills me. Also the song reminds me of a guy I worked with who had a family and was let go and how it must have felt for him to go home and tell his family he lost his job. This was around the same time the album came out so I really felt for the guy when I heard this song. Granted we were just servers in a restaurant it still must have sucked for him to tell his wife he lost his freaking restaurant job ya know? Another gem I have yet to see live! ENOUGH OF BETTERMAN ALREADY!!! I feel like their shows consist of mostly die hard fans anyway do they really have to play betterman and evenflow every time still? Play the rarities and the forgotten ones!

least favourite track off avo. the only filler IMO.
    ed sounds like shania twain.
Yeh I've seen Pearl Jam, too. But I can't remember the dates.
  • Easily the best-written song on "Avocado". Brilliant guitar parts and chords. Written by Matt Cameron, so right away the boneheaded fans won't like it. The comparisons to Shania Twain are ridiculous and ignorant.

I agree. I love the song, beautiful lyrics and melodies.
My first PJ show to witness was at Bonnaroo. How is that for lucky?

Indeed, it's a fantastic song - one of the best songs the band has ever produced.

bonehead? a laughable throwaway statement. maybe i'm just not elitist enough to see the magic that is unemployable.

my ears tell my brain what i like.

parachutes and inside job are IMO the best 2 written songs on avocado.

Alternatively, the elitist knobheaded fans will analyse the shit out of it and ultimately pretend it's their best song, because Ed says Matt writes the best songs.

lol...I just can't get into parachutes...may be the only PJ song that I can't get into....
    Conversations getting dull
There's a constant ringing in my ears
Sense of humor's void and numb
    And I'm bored to tears.......

not sayin it's my favourite pj song... far from it.. but looking at avo, it's still miles ahead of unemployable. i'm trying to compare apples to apples here.

its a cool song gotta love that intro but inside job for me is the best song on the album

Parachutes is my other favorite. Inside Job is a great song but there isn't much to it. Unemployable is a way more accomplished tune.

Who pretends to like a song? Get real. That's what ignorant people say when they can't get into a song, and have no explaination why.

Matt DOES write the best songs. He writes songs for other musicians to enjoy, not drunken fratboys.

me either,i strongly dislike that song.

army reserve & gone are 2 of my favorites!!and you gotta love comatose!

matt's style is definitely unique to the other members of the band.

but in all fairness, if he was the sole song writer from day 1.. we probably wouldnt even be here on a pearl jam forum. stone is the man for me.

the money and popularity is based around 4/4 time ,3 chords and minor pentatonic scales! :D (i say that loosely but i think u would know what i mean.)

HTF does Unemployable qualify as "pub rock"? You must be getting it confused with Come Back.

its my favorite song off the album. i'll even say it's close to being my favorite song from the last two albums.
i'm more a fan of popular bands.. like the bee-gees, pearl jam

While the initial shine of Parachutes has somewhat worn off with repeated listens, Unemployable and Inside Job have earned no such fate. Two standout songs off an album proving to be a bit generic over time.
Once in a while you can get shown the light, in the strangest of places if you look at it right.
  • Yeah, I love this song a whole bunch... :)
Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.
