Adjustable Dumbbell (worth buying?)

This summer I have made it a point to get back into my old lifting routine. It has worked because I am on break from school and can use my schools gym for free. However, when I have a full course load again in the fall it might be hard to keep at it. Plus, the gym will be packed as opposed to practically empty (as it is this summer).

So, I have been thinking of getting a pair of adjustable dumbbells for my apartment. Definitely more expensive then I thought, but I found this pair on sale through sports authority.

Worth it to own a pair?

i'd go with a simple metal dumbbell. usually a dollar a pound aren't they?
that thing is 300 bucks plus other charges. kiss my ass...

you can get a lot of weight equipment for 300 bucks
sure it looks nice and may be a fine product
to damn much money for a college student or anyone else for that matter
(assuming you're a poor college dude)

go on ebay... buy someone's used weights
for poetry through the ceiling. ISBN: 1 4241 8840 7

I have the Power Block ones (5-50lbs) and have always liked them. If space is an issue, these are great cause you don't need a rack of dumbbells. It's also easier than getting dumbbell handles and a bunch of plates to take on and off...

I would try to get a used pair if you can.

Thanks, I need a voice of reason on this one.

Fact of the matter is that I will still have access to a free gym. If I manage my time well I can still use that as opposed to making this purchase.

Instead maybe use the money to get a new couch, which I need, or buy a snowboarding season pass for Sugarloaf/Sunday River.

I shopped those as well. People at different sporting goods stores said they tend to break - the selectors for different weights snap or however they work. So eventually you lose the ability to select what weight you want. Really depends on what you aer going to do as well. I have done p90x with a range of dumbells - $1 per pound - and some of the bands. Probably spent $300 but they will be a pain in the ass whenever I move. The bands only run $19 but you can get anywehre from 30 - 75lbs of resistance out of each one. Good luck

I think you will be happier with the season pass

Wow, guess I need to monitor ebay. My apartment isn't huge, so I am not sure if I want that much weight lying around, but its good to know there are options. Thanks!

Maybe just a couple reasonable weight, cheap dumbbells, are a better option for when I can't gym it.

Yeah, $349.00 for the pass until the end of november. I have all my own gear, so that helps. Day passes alone on those mountains are $70-$80, so you pay for it in four trips.

Buy a kettlebell and do a complete workout with it. Only need 1-3 of them and a great workout.
