The irish state has historically been tied to rome in terms that the Vatican had enormous influence on the laws and ethos of the state. For two long the governments of ireland where too afraid to stand up to the church, but finnaly we have a PM who has stood up and said enough is enough, even though he is a devout catholic. hopefully this will lead to proper church state seperation and will help protect children from similar monsters

Taoiseach Enda Kenny has launched an unprecedented attack on the Vatican in a Dail debate following the publication of the controversial Cloyne Report.
“The rape and torture of children were downplayed ... managed to uphold instead, the primacy of the institution, its power, standing and reputation,” Mr Kenny said.
He added that the report on clerical sexual abuse "excavates the dysfunction, the disconnection, the elitism that dominates the Vatican today".
The 400-page Clonye Report investigated how allegations against 19 priests were dealt with between 1996 and 2009 and found the Vatican's response to the church guidelines was entirely unhelpful.
It also found the Vatican gave comfort and support to those who dissented from the guidelines, describing it as "wholly unacceptable".
The Taoiseach’s comments came following calls from Fine Gael’s Charlie Flanagan to have the Papal Nuncio expelled while Justice Minister Alan Shatter described rejections of the report by Vatican spokesman Fr Lombardi as ''disingenuous''.
He also said he agreed with calls from Dublin Archbishop Diarmuid Martin for the church to publish all reports, similar to Cloyne and Ryan as soon as possible.
The Dail motion states that they deplore “the Vatican’s intervention, which contributed to the undermining of the child protection frameworks and guidelines of the Irish State and the Irish bishops”.
