Here's the list of the top 10 stouts from the 2011 u.s. open beer championships:

    1. Dirac – Cigar City Brewing - Florida
    2. The Abyss - Deschutes Brewery - Oregon
    3. Tempest Imperial Stout - Amsterdams Brewing - Canada
    4. Ten Fidy, Oskar Blues Brewing - Colorado
    5. Samuel Smiths Imperial Stout - Samuel Smith's Brewery - England
    6. Sam Adams Imperial Stout, Boston Beer Company - Massachuetts
    7. Imperial Russian Stout – Stone Brewing - California
    8. Dragonstooth Stout - Elysian Brewing Company - Washington
    9. Stoudt's Fat Dog - Stoudts Brewing - Pennsylvania, USA
    10. Nebraska Imperial Stout, Nebraska Brewing - Nebraska

Abyss is easily one of the best things, ever! I have 2 2009's waiting in my pantry for the perfect time.
Ten Fidy is awesome and might be able to hold up a spoon. Not sure if you can get it out east.
Sam Smiths is excellent, but sometimes quality varies, maybe due to shipping or storage in the store.
    Dragonstooth Stout is also good.
    Haven't had the others....

I've had cigar citys Bolita and Madura both very good. Samuel Smiths oatmeal stout is very good as well. I just had the Stone IRS on saturday it was good but nothing special imo.

I have tried a bunch of the Rogue beers. Haven't had one I don't like. Good shit

I love stouts, but I tend to drink them in the non-summer seasons. I was pounding some shandy beer down the shore last weekend. kinda gay, but delicious. It did the trick

    Drinking is the best
