Footsteps in Columbia . . .

Was driving around yesterday listening to the 2nd cd from the Columbia, SC show & was almost brought to tears when I heard Footsteps. What a beautiful version of that song. I've mostly listened to the 1st cd, and just recently put in the 2nd cd, so I've never really noticed it before. Though I'm not a big fan of Boom, even though he seems like a big teddy bear w/ a great soul, I've always thought PJ really didn't need to add him to the band, as they were great before Boom. But after hearing this version of Footsteps, I think the piano that was added in this song was awesome - I'm speechless & just can't put it into words.

Give it a listen & let me know what you guys think of it :)

Hearing Footsteps in Columbia was one of my many hightlights from the June tour- simply stunning! I'm so glad that I was able to talk the wife into going to this show at the last minute.

I just want to say "thank you" to the person who brought the sign requesting it. It definitely checked off one song I had been wanting to hear live for a long time.

Everything about the Columbia version was simply bone chilling!

Such a perfect way to round up a perfect night. I had to re-listen to it just to remember how magical it was that night for us. I love hearing the crowd singing along with Ed. That is something I was not able to clearly hear on the Gorge version.

And I agree with Melanie about Boom's keys in this one-so complimentary to the song. I am REALLY glad they brought him on board and think he has done nothing but add to the great sound PJ has.

    Nice post!

It was played at Camden II as well. Highlight of the summer for me as I had been waiting forever to hear it live.

Yeah it actually works in that song. Times of Trouble has a piano in it, and that's basically the same music.

But yeah I was happy as hell when they started playing that in Columbia. Man, what a show! Got a few I'd have never expected like WMA, and also a couple that I really wanted them to play but didn't think they would since they don't play them regularly...I'm speaking of Glorified G, Whipping, Present Tense, and Red Mosquito. The whole experience was just fucking great and its one of the best Pearl Jam shows I've attended.

I think the last time I had seen Footsteps was in Charleston, S.C. in 96 so when I saw someone with a homemade Footsteps flag a few seats over from me, I thought that would be great to hear it again in South Carolina. When Ed saw it and the WMA flag, he said they would get to some requests later. When they kicked into it, he asked for the flag and draped it over his monitor.

Super show and my first PJ show with my 15 year old son. We hit Va Beach the next night and he snagged 4 Mike picks. Mike was great and was trying unsuccessfully to flick him one. When he saw how hard my son was trying to get one, he threw out a handful at him. Pretty cool.

  • Good version at Columbia, but I still think the best one was Mansfield III 03.
