Ten Years Gone

Quite possibly one of the best Led Zeppelin songs ever. :o

I overlooked this song until I woke up to it about a week ago when it was being played by an awesome morning DJ here in SLC. This shit is awesome! The Black Crowes did a great version with Jimmy Page on Live At The Greek too.

Let this be the time to once again discuss the majesty that is Led Zeppelin.

I kind of came to the same conclusion. This song is so beautiful and flowing that it is a shining example of why Led Zeppelin is still incredibly relevant in rock music today. This band should be forever appreciated and acknowledged as being one of the greatest rock bands ever. Period.

  • It's an excellent studio song.

It didn't translate too well live. The Destroyer boot that went down into legend has a somewhat stripped down version of the song. I think one of the things that made the song so powerful was the multiple guitar overdubs.

Simply the best of the best....Plant's voice and every instrument played by the rest of the band bleed emotion

Great tune. It is probably Page's last great guitar song.

I totally agree. Page's solo is an eargasm.

    +1

My 'favorite' Zep song changes on a daily basis, but Ten Years Gone is consistently in the top 5. There's honestly not one Zeppelin song that I don't like. They were such an amazing band and I don't think we'll ever see the likes of them again. Just wish I would have been able to see them live.

Here's one that I recently fell in love with. Poor Tom.. Just sooo cool when that acoustic comes in.

Yeah, there's definitely no Zep song that I dislike. Good Times, Bad Times all the way to Baby, Come On Home....Love IT!!!

Anybody else think they're the most unduplicable band ever. I've heard bands ape the Beatles, Stones, Hendrix, and The Who(not to say done better)and they can really capture the vibe of some of their stuff, but when bands try to rip Zeppelin it's just generic sounding.

Great thread. Agree with lots here:

-Pretty much no other band in history could ever have made a song like this.
-Everyone was in top form on this song. Afterwards, besides (arguably) Achilles Last Stand the band never made another song this good.
-The track was a little too complex to really pull off live. They only played it in 1977. I still think the Destroyer version is great though.
-It always rotates around my top 5 (top 3 probably) as well.
-It anchors my all-time favorite album side - Side 3 of Physical Graffiti (In the Light, Bron-yr-Aur, Down by the Seaside, Ten Years Gone)

My favourite Zep song of all time. Simply beautiful.

Also love the Jimmy Page/Black Crowes version. Especially with the 'Did ya ever really need somebody' part.

Interesting observation, but I would agree with you. I've heard acts that try to replicate those sounds but like you've said, trying to replicate the Zeppelin sound just doesn't work.

Truly one of a kind band and musicians.

I need to get my hands on the Page/Plant album... I've heard wonderful things.

You mean No Quarter/Unledded or Walking Into Clarksdale?

No Quarter is pretty good. I recommend the dvd. Think it has a few extra tunes even.

Walking Into Clarksdale is decent. About as good as you can expect for 25 years after their prime. I think this version of Please Read the Letter kicks the crap outta the Raising Sand version.

I didn't know about the Clarksdale one, so I guess I was referring to Unledded. I'll have to check out the DVD!

Also, it's worth seeing Plant on his newest tour. Although it's not Led Zeppelin, it's great music!
