I saw articles on mercedes, BMW and volvo about the new features that activate an autonomous driving system when a person is not paying attention or incapacitated.
Are we ready for this?
Will this make drivers lazy and pay attention less?
Or is this the beginning of a slow evolution where cars eventually drive themselves?

I wonder if this debate occured when the first automatic transmissions came out.
On a serious note, it's good if it is approached as a safety feature versus a convenience feature. If you get distracted momentarily and the car in front of you slams on the breaks and your car can stop itself in time, then it is a marvelous feature. I don't think most people that buy these super expensive cars will just ignore the break pedal ... it's too unnatural to the seasoned driver. Just keep an eye out for the Paris Hilton's of the world, and we should be fine.Be Excellent To Each OtherParty On, Dudes!0 -
Also, I wish Macho Man Randy Savage had one of these BMW's.Be Excellent To Each OtherParty On, Dudes!0

I would pay BIG bucks for a remote control that would disable the cars of the idiots who get in my way on the highway and have no idea how to drive.
The people who enter the highway and then put their foot on the brake.
The people who drive for 10 miles with their blinker going.
The people who can't stay in their own lane on and On-Ramp.
The people who hover in your blind spot.
The people who drive in the far-left lane until 1/4 of a mile before their exit and then cut through 4 lanes of traffic in one move.
I'd pay bigger bucks for a eject button that would just toss those losers off the road.
But according to the prosecuting attorney, I have a "road rage" problem. Fucking commies. :?0 -
I would totally trust a car that can stop by itself than some of the savages I come across on my 60 mile adventure (round trip) to & from work a day.0

Oh sing it, brother.
I ride a motorcycle in Los Angeles and so does my husband. I have seen people pull shit that you wouldn't believe. And then they have the nerve to wave at you... sometimes actually WITH THE CELL PHONE that they were looking at still in the hand they're waving out the window.0 -
There are a lot of old people in my area that could benefit from this technology. They are the main reason why I dont ride my motorcycle anymore. I almost got killed a few times by a 90 year old that couldnt see over the dashboard.Pick up my debut novel here on amazon: Jonny Bails Floatin (in paperback) (also available on Kindle for $2.99)0
