ALS can suck it...

So after 4 years of suffering, immensely in the past year, my good friend and commute buddy, Dave, passed yesterday... Father of 3 and 46, avid music fan... He started getting tremors when he and I would commute to NYC together... And I was stunned when the diagnosis came... He worked until the end and was always positive... 4 years worth of declining health from a cane to wheel chair to bed ridden.... But always with a smile.... His kids spent a ton of time with him which I hope they will always remember...
So I hope everyone here appreciates the luck of the draw they have and enjoy the life they lead... A man who knew he was doomed lived all his limited days to the max... We should all do that..

I suggest everyone watches "The last lecture" by Professor Randy Pausch.
In 2007 when Randy knew he had only months to live, he was asked to give his "Hypothetical Last Lecture" this would be for real.
It's truly an amazing lecture, and people can learn a thing or two about enjoying what you have, and how you can help others.

anytime, man. and thanks.
yup. it's the same thing. some people live with the disease for years, some for mere months. the progression varies with each patient. there is no "rough estimate" at all...and there is no cure...yet!

I agree, we should all try to "live until we die." In the 90s I spent 5 years working with people who were terminally ill and they taught me much more about living than dying.

Someone so young dying is so hard, my brother-in-law died of cancer at 45, it seems so very unfair.
Thinking of you and Daves family.
