Little Italy is right there. Great food but not sure if that is enough preparty for you.

You can go to Hawkeyes on Taylor. They might have a bus to the show and back for $5. If not, it's pretty close anyway. Usually a good bar to preparty. Enjoy.

Might check out Hawkeyes. Just want to make sure it's not too far since I know if you wander too far there it can get a little scary for a couple of girls who aren't sure of where they are going in that area.....

might head over there as well. I'd rather pay $5 than 20 at UIC.

I'll try to find some other people to meet there as well.

Might want to call and see if they have a shuttle. Usually they do, but it depends on how many people they think will be going to this show. The neighborhood is much better than it was even 5 years ago. Wish I was going. I saw Soundgarden at the Vic last year and they were amazing. Have fun.

I'll be at the UIC show. It should be a good time. I actually have a couple extra tickets that I'm looking to unload. Anyone not have tickets yet? Or have friends that might like to go? Let me know. Thanks.
    I was there...

they really f'd up this tour by picking such big venues and then doing that VIP bullshit with the seats next to the stage. there's 5th row tickets available right now in the first wing section. ridiculous. wish I didnt already have tickets.

dont get me wrong, I'm really looking forward to tonight, but the venue might be 30% empty.

Good show. To each their own, but I'd like to know why/how people were sitting in the upper deck? Luckily no one behind me bitched that I was standing so it's all good. Again, to each their own, but how do you sit during Outshined or Jesus Christ Pose, how?

If Mars Volta was at PJ20 I'd sell my tickets and go to Canada.

Other than that...what a fucking killer show!!! I think my ears are still bleeding from this...

Watching Mars Volta was like watching the really talented kids in the marching band try to act artsy yet tough at the high school talent show. Maybe someday that singer's balls will drop and he'll be able to hit more than one note.

Mar Volta should change their name to "Noise". I was considering going over to the soundboard and assaulting the techs with a flip-flop.

Ha. I think I'm even more pissed that they have Meat Puppets and Queens of the Stone Age opening other shows on their tour. Would have much rather seen one of them.

Sad to hear that about TMV. I thought that they moved on from that crap. Seen them a couple times within the last few years. They stuck pretty close to the album arrangements on most stuff and they were pretty mindblowing.

They were giving an A-effort but is was just garbled loud noises. The lead singer Cedric made a few dicky comments to the crowd, which didn't help matters. A few years back I heard they were doing a show in Washington and someone in the crowd nailed Cedric with a cup of piss .... now I may know why that happened.

It was really awesome to see Soundgarden after all these years. One of my good friends came down to see it and it was his first concert in 10 years. The setlist was full of winners and the band sounded better then I had expected, considering the 15 year layoff.

During the show I came to the realization that Soundgarden showing up at PJ20 probably isn't going to happen ... I can't imagine Matt being able to follow up with a PJ set after the workout he got at the Chicago show. Wow! I'm still crossing my fingers for a TOTD reunion.

Highlights for me were ... well, I guess the whole show was a highlight. Nothing to Say was badass. I thought my clothes were going to shake off during Slaves and Bulldozers! That song actually cleaned the dust off the rafters. Also, everyone should witness that band play Jesus Christ Pose before they die.

Props to UIC Pavilion for keeping a steady rotation of beer vendors on the floor. I didn't sit in line once the whole night.

My only complaint is that they should have had Matt’s drumkit elevated 20 feet above the stage so his awesomeness could be further illuminated. :D

Holy shit, great show. I'm so grateful I got to see one of my favorite bands of all time live. Matt is great with PJ, but this show offered further proof that he is on a whole other level with SG. Easily one of the loudest concerts I've ever seen (heard). Highlights: Jesus Christ Pose - just pure energy; Blow Up the Outside World - great singalong at the end; The Day I Tried to Live - probably my favorite SG song; Outshined - come on; Burden in My Hand; Beyond the Wheel - incredible that Chris can sing this; Like Suicide; Slaves and Bulldozers - fucked my mind to death.

My sole complaint is the bitch of a woman next to me. She stood with her arms folded across her chest for the entirety of the show. I wouldn't be complaining about her, however, if she hadn't complained about and mocked my behavior. Yeah, I move around a lot. Yeah, I jump, dance, pump my fist, bang my head and sing my lungs out. You know why?? I'M AT A FUCKING ROCK CONCERT. Do people like this get dragged along to these shows or what? Who spent hard-earned money on a ticket for this soulless beast? Why are her friends not kicking her ass? Ok, ok, I'll stop.

I'm still hurting from jumping, dancing, headbanging and my voice is still shot from so much singing, yelling and screaming. Great, great show. Matt is a god.

I'd be annoyed too. The people who "sing their lungs out" dont realize how annoying it is to be standing next to them. If I can hear you over Chris, it's too loud. You have the right to enjoy yourself, just like she does, as long as it doesnt bother the next person. As far as jumping around, as long as you're not constantly bumping into me and trying to get a pit started, I dont care.

I know what most people will say because we have this "me first" attitude in this country, but is it so hard to have some respect for the next person's enjoyment even if that person is a stranger?

Well said! I'm not knocking anyone for enjoying themselves at a show. Whether it be jumping around, singing along, etc. it's a rock show...I do the same thing. You are supposed to let loose and have fun. But at the same time, you have to do that without costing those a round you a good time. I thought for the most part, the SG crowd in Chicago was really good. As always there were some dipshits but for the most part very good crowd. Energetic but not assholes.

Lol, I don't think anyone could hear anything over how loud this show was. Secondly, I would argue that this woman interfered more with my experience than I did hers. I had more respect for her experience (although I'd also argue she didn't even have an experience) than she did for mine. I barely had any room and I still respected her space and she still complained to her friend about me. THIS WOMAN DIDN'T EVEN CLAP ONCE!

In this case, even if someone had a megaphone with them, I don't think they could have overshadowed Chris. It was loud in there!

Agreed. The rules previously discussed regarding singing at shows have to be amended for this one. I have seen a lot of shows in my time and I don't remember anything this loud. I think Chris can hit notes that only dogs can hear. Matt's drums sounded awesome...like rhythmic bombs going off. Ben's bass rattled the floor and Kim...well Kim is just Kim. I'm so glad these guys are back at it again and can't wait to hear the new stuff.
