Interesting whats going on in Michigan..

Of all the welfare debates that take place on the train, I have to admit the most concern I had was that a percentage (i think about 20%) are on it for over 5 years.
There are some problems with this though:
"There is no grandfather clause in the measure, approved 24-12, which tightens the original 2006 benefits cap that allowed for benefit extensions if the recipient was in job training or unable to work. That means most recipients who are or will be past 48 months on Oct. 1 will be cut off.
Republicans rejected a Democratic amendment that would have provided for extensions for recipients living in counties where the unemployment rate exceeds 25 percent of the statewide average."
Is there a better way to get people help and off welfare after 4-5 years? Maybe they should do a pyramid reduction over the years of 3-5 instead of just simply cutting it off?

shit like this just makes me shake my head.
there are too many able bodied people in the country that take these dollars and sit on their ass and don't try to do anything to better their situation. it's sad that we are even discussing this. 4 fuckin years. fuck me.
it..
Godfather.
I makes me wonder why those who envy this high-life don't live it themselves...you know, since living is subsidized house developments is paradise...
4 years isn't enough to sort things out? really?
you need to get out more...
i know somebody on welfare. the person is early 40's, able bodied and CHOOSE to put time and effort into getting welfare vs. filling out applications for a job. no, this person doesn't drive a fancy car, heck this person doesn't have a license to drive. they live a poor life. no doubt about it. i've seen this person pick up cig butts off the ground to get that fix. this person would rather live off the system than work. that's a fact.
way back when, i used paint. we did a bunch of section 8 apartments. some of those people were working to better themselves, and some had apartments full of empty booze bottles, because, well, that's what they liked to do.
so anyrate...i don't think anyone here is agaisnt a nanny state saftey net, and neither am i, however, 4 years is a long time to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and to get back on the horse.
Godfather.
you assume I advocate folks live on welfare forever...
I find it interesting that folks think those on welfare are living the high life...that's all...

Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill, it teaches the whole people by its example. Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a law-breaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy. - Louis Brandeis
