Figured it out

A few years ago I was in Toronto and U2 was there. I thought I could get a ticket for 50-100$ if I waited till 4-6 songs into the show. Scalpers started at 500-1500 per ticket before the show started. By the time the concert was 6-7 songs away from being done they wouldnt take anything less than 475 for the ticket. I was buying tickets for a show yesterday and I figured out that scalpers most likely have insurance on their tickets so that if they do not sell them they get all their money back from Ticketmaster.

Interesting theory. Ticketmaster holds back a couple hundred seats to gauge demand, then gives them to the scalpers to sell, not sure what incentive tm would have to offer insurance though. Once the concerts over or about to be over, its a sunk cost, why not recoup any money you could from the tix?
